I eliminated my blow by bottle a long time ago and ran an extention down by the transfer case. I can see vapor coming from under the truck. Not a huge amount mine you, but it's visible non the less. It doesn't matter what the outside temp. is. Normal? Has anyone else noticed this? TIA

Tom

Normal. I just removed by bottle and ran it probably to the same place you did. See a little vapor but it has not dripped any. My son did his 99 and I think he has less vapor but its nothing to worry about. I think my first one a 91 was about the same amount. I look for them to come out with something different in the future cause this is a bad design.

I just cleaned out my bottle for the first time after about 14000 miles and there was just a little bit in the bottom of the bottle.

But, the %$^& thing has holes in it and makes a mess on the front bottom of the engine. I have a 4X2, has anyone else extended the hose and if so, where to? Does the extended hose just cause the spray to end up elsewhere on the bottom of the truck? It seems to me if the bottle was just sealed (no holes) it would not leak all over everything... there must be a reason for the holes:confused:

I would get the Walker Airsep system, but since I am currently unemployed due to downsizing, it's kind of hard to justify the expense.

I removed the bottle and added 6' of 3/4" heater hose. Yes I do get some vapor from mine. Mine extends along the frame and exits behind the drivers door. I may extend it back further or cut it back to extend straight down towards the ground from the stock location. I haven't decided yet.

perfectly normal. i put mine back by the transfer case but ended it in a crankcase breather filter that just fit in the end of the 5/8" heater hose that i ran back. it may oil a bit under there, but better than on the front of the engine and dripping down on the transmission cooler hoses. don't block it off--pressurizes the crankcase and valve cover area--bad juju. if you run it back like some of us have, be sure there are no low spots in the hose. in cold climates condensation will pool there, and freeze blocking the "breathing". :(

socal,

I got some 3/4" hose and a 'barbed' coupling and two hose clamps and ran the new hose down along the driver's side of the engine. redneckdr has a good point, don't allow any low spots that oil and water can acumulate(sp?), freeze and block it off. If you do a search, you'll find lots of posts on this one.

Anthony,

Calling it a 'decent' amount of vapor is an apt description. Not a lot, but more than you'd want. Seems like everybody has it though.

I left my bottle on but moved it down and to the side, it still catches the oil but does'nt cause the oily mess on the fan blades and Eng. Do not block the holes. :)

Hold a flashlight at the bottom of the breather tube when it is dark with the engine warm and running. There is a lot more blowby than you think. All that I have seen have it though.

yes we all have blowbye,i'm wondering if we run a quart low on oil if it slow it down a bit, on the hose issue,i took the stock hose off and put the new one on and angled it up and back toward firewall and down along steering column, inside frame rail and down under drivers seat,no drips still smokes,so i'm going to extend back a little farther. hope this helps.

i like my setup, with a crankcase breather filter on the end of the hose that i ran back under the cab to the cross member at the transfer case. doing that i don't see much smoke, but still can still smell the odor when i get out of the truck. much better than having the oiling of the front of the engine. i used a Hastings filter. can't remember the number, but if anyone wants the number, i think i have it at home.

There is a reason for the holes--you don't want any pressure to build up in the blow-by system. Positive pressure up there will eventually blow a gasket. The holes that are there are probably bigger than they need to be, though.

i don't know what the walker airsept system costs, but i'm quite happy with my set up with the crankcase breather filter in the end of the hose--total cost: about $8-$10. i had the hose and clamps on hand, but the filter was about $5, as i recall.
