Yeah, I believe that is legit. Pike fishing is a blast. Every summer I would fish Ontario with my dad for them, walleye and smallies.

They are a lot of fun to cast for. Both pike and musky fishermen figure 8 at the boat because lots of times the fish will follow all the way and this could trigger a strike at the end. Gets your blood pumpin when that big legless aligator comes out of nowhere and slams your lure...

I have seen several 40"+ fish. My dad and I caught 1 51" musky, so I believe that pic is not doctored...

Looks like a legitimate picture to me.

In lakes with pike and muskies (and lake trout) it is not unusual to catch a smaller fish (bass, trout, walleye, pike, muskies) with obvious teeth marks or other scars from getting away!

Actually sometimes even big fish had an encounter with a BIGGER fish, and have the scars to prove it!!! Caught some with the red showing around the wounds that it was a recent encounter.

Somebody went & planted Pike in a cold water lake in N California, Lake Davis. He wanted some "enhanced sport fishing". Fish & Game poisioned the lake, trying to kill them, that failed. Now they're shocking the lake. They've brought up some biggies I understand.

The problem with that lake is the Pike will get into the downstream tributaries all the way twords the Pacific Ocean, hosing over the Salmon. At least that's the publicity on it.

Regardless, I'd like to hook one. Gotta beat Rainbows anyday.

Piers probably woudn't ... Crappie is about the max. :-laf

I hear they will do exactly what you see in that picture!

I know I have caught small blues off Cape hatteris beaches where you can feel it fighting you then BANG, something big hits the line then the fight stops. Pull in the line and all that is left is just the head! I have had it happen several times in the fall when the blues are heading south.

This is the second or third time they're trying to get the pike out of Lake Davis. A friend of mine went to Minnesota some years ago when they were doing it the first time and said Minnesota was doing the same thing... but they were trying to get rid of the trout in one of their pike lakes!

I have absolutely no doubts that the picture is authentic. I have seen a buddy of mine hook a 14" walleye, only to have it in turn hit by a huge pike. The pike took the walleye, and ran away from the boat twice, dropping the walleye at one point. Our guide yelled to keep the hurting walleye in the water, and the pike came back and hit it again. A few minutes later, my buddy had a demolished 14" walleye and a 34" pike in the boat. The guide mentioned that they see similar situations on occasion, but only one in ten of the pike that take another fish get actually get caught. After a few pictures, we put the pike back in.

Cool pic!

I have caught a couple 22-26" Pikes in the boundary waters on the Minnesota side. We took them right back to camp and cooked them up! :D

Remember catching a few in Lake Erie when I lived back there, pops and I were really surprised one day when I caught a monster at the small boat harbor outside Buffalo!

I have also seen this twice. Once with my cousin and once with my dad. Both times they were bringing in a walleye when the pike hit it.

It's authentic.

A few years ago I was up in the Boundry Waters with a bunch of buddies. Duluth Diesel was there. He had caught a smallish northern while trolling. Another buddy and I had the stringer and had it tied to the rear gunwhale. I was in the front, Jim in the rear. I felt the Canue wiggle, I turned to yell at my buddy cause I didn't want to go for a swim and there it was. The small northern, being 16-18'' long was taken up to the gills by a muskie. The eye on the muskie was behind where the rear of the northern was! It was HUGE! Jim is hitting the water with a paddle and yelling "Gimme somethin! Gimme Somethin!" He was gonna try to wrestle the dang thing into the canue! It had to have been 50-60lbs of P!$$ed off fish! The little dorsal fin was behind the tail of the canue, head at the front gunwhale. BIG fish! Luckily (I think) Jim didn't get a good hold on it and try to bring it into the canue...

They tell me my paternal grandfather fished regularly for Northern Pike. Apparently he carried a bat in the boat and would beat the fish senseless after catching it. Not very humane, but I've heard they are mean! I'm sorry I never met the man - he died before i was born. He was also a diesel mechanic.

Do Northern Pike ever actually attack swimmers?

-Ryan

Last year on Sand Lake or Island lake, a couple miles from my house a northern attacked a kid. It was in the local paper. They were in shallow (1-2') water playing and the pike bit the kids leg. I think he was only like 5 years old. The dad was right there and hit it to make it let go. When we're out fishing for sunnies or crappies it's not uncommon to have a nothern hit when you're realing in another fish. There's supposebly a 5-6' sturgeon in the lake that I live on (Sturgeon Lake Ironically) I've never seen it, but last year a buddy and his dad did while putting in dock. My buddy was speechless. They said the head had to be close to a foot wide and it was at least 5 feet long. Kinda makes you think twice about going swimming.

If you like fishing and ever get a chance, go to Canada. The fishing up there spoils a guy.

Yeah, I guess it depends on what you're used to.

P. S. Speaking of fishin' I have to get a hold of ya and see if you guys would want to have a bomb day / day on the lake up here sometime this summer.

You gonna be at the Hudson Rest stop at 5am for the IRP run? Oo. Oo.

I'm off to bed. Keep in touch and let me know when you'd like to do that!
