The other halfs 2k Duango w/ 8k miles and 12 1/2 mo. old had the brake master cyl. go toes up on the freeway today.
On the way to work she started slowing in a construction zone and no brakes. #ad
she used the emergency brake and got off the road. Got towed to Dodge. Failed master cy. still full of fluid but no braking, petal would go to the floor would not pump up. The master cy is on back order from DC. Seems this is a common occurance, NO TSB's or recall just one of those NATURE OF THE BEAST, THEY ALL DO IT, THEIR ALL LIKE THAT #ad
(lets see if the filter works)DC BULL $%#T. [edit cause it made it]

If any one has a loved one driving a Durango you might want to remind them to use the E-brake when the petal goes to the floor so they wont panic and do grevious bodily harm.

Up till now the Durango has been 100% trouble free. Never been in for any warranty work.

JNutter,
Thanks for the info. My wife also drives a Y2K Durango. It's been in for an alignment, a TSB for an Engine stumble(still waiting on EPA approval of the new flash), and to have new spring tips put on it. (Another TSB). The truck clacked going down the road. Just enough to drive guys like us crazy!!!

My wife has a 2k Durango also. We took it in for it's first visit to the dealer this week due to the drivers side window not working. They also replaced the front rotors due to warping.

The only other problem that it had is a squeak that is somewhere behind the dash on the drivers side. Extremely annoying to have to listen to and I've been all over that thing trying to find where it's coming from.

I'll keep the master cylinder issue in mind. Thanks for the heads up!

Later,
Mike

My wife also drives a 2k Durango. It onlyhas 1000 mi but no problems.

A friend has a 2k also and it has been in due to the air bag light staying on.

Cummins needs to start building a REAL pickup truck and put the ISB in it for us, (300HP). DC is getting sucky-----.

O. K. My Fiancee's Dakota did it ONCE yesterday. Slowing for a busy intersection, it worked to slow then went to the FLOOR. Drove it around quite a bit today, didn't do it again. Called to make an appointment to get it in, service manager says "we can't replace the master cylinder unless we get it to act up".

Is there a TSB on it yet?

Extreme1 - tell them they WILL replace the master cylinder or they'll be sued into oblivion. This isn't one of those annoyances like a rattle or loose part, this is absolute safety. In fact, take it in, have them test it and if they refuse to replace it because they can't duplicate the problem, it's documented in their own records. Still, I'd insist and take it from the service department to the owner to DC if I have to. And if that didn't get any results, I'd get a lawyer pre-emptvely. You don't want to be going 70 and need to panic stop when the thing gives up the ghost!
