Dean, reasons to keep the stock pillar?

-The grab handle.

-In your face gauges.

-A free mount in the dash cubby. (if you have one and don't mind looking down)

I have no experience with the G3 gauge pillars and as I said am unaware how they fit.

Has anyone actually seen how it looks on the inside with the aftermarket pod over the stock A-pillar on a 3rd gen truck? I was looking at it today, and unless it is a really good fit, I would think that with the pod over the stock part it would be "sticking out. " It would seem to me that for it to look good, the aftermarket pod would have to actually be made slightly larger to fit over the original A-pillar piece.

Putting the gages in the cubby hole would probably be the easiest installation, the only problem is that they're pretty hard to see down there!

I'm only going to go with two gages, the pyro and boost, so I'm not too concerned with their being "in my face. " So far, the A-pillar route seems the way to go.

I'd be interested in hearing from other TDR members as to how the A-pillar gage mount installed, and how it looks both on the inside and through the windshield - on the 3rd gen trucks.

I never got used to the grab handle, I still usd the wheel and at least one person that I can think of that went on his butt probably wishe he did too:) .

I had three gauges on the dash of my 94 and did not like them at all and the combo gauge was on the ashtray of my 98, that was the worst.

The placement of the A-Pillar 2 gauge mount is perfect for me and it may not be for others, I can see the information I need without having to take my eyes away from the road. We all have our own likes and dislikes and it will always be that way. No one's way is best ;) .

I think that's a pretty good thing because that is how we get our own ideas and benefit from the ideas of others,

I used the a-pillar mount for my three gauge installation. I followed the directions and re-used the original pillar. I cut the handle the way the directions called for and it fit under the new cover just fine. When we got to the part of holding the pillar against the truck to install the one screw, I thought there would be a fight to align things, but the supplied screw went right in and started to thread with just hand pressure. Hardest part of the install was trying to figure out which wire off the headlight switch was the dimmer controlled one. The 03s is orange/white, but mine was different. My dad has driven the truck the last three weeks, and everybody that saw the gauges, thought they came on the truck from the factory. The color and fit is perfect, not to mention the match of the gauges. I don't see any difference in the gauges, I mean gauge to gauge, in brightness. All three are about the same and dim with my dash gauges. If you want to see them, check my readers rigs page, for some shots. I don't have any at night, might try that soon. I was going to paint the pillar screw, its black, but today I looked at the passenger door panel and it has some black trim screws on it, too, so I may not. On the install, I found some TDR buddies that were dying to wrench on a 3rd gen truck, and to be honest, they did the install for me. Ask around your area, there might be some guys already doing a regular wrench session that would be glad to help. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck with your install.

I have the Di-Pricol gauges and am very happy with them. I was a little dissappointed with the lighting issue on the EGT Gauge and am hoping that they develop a matching "fix" in the future. If you notice, all of the factory gauges, along with all the matching gauges (in my case, boost and fuel pressure), have a center cap which moves with and includes the needle. The EGT has a white "dot" on the gauge lens and this allows light to bleed out and look different from the other gauges. I don't know if the center cap would have been too big or what... the factory gauges have different size center caps. All in all, they matched better than anything else I found.

i have the 2 pod a pillar from genos and love it! looks like it belongs there. after the first few days when the new toy thing wares off you dont even notice its there when driving.

Up untill today I have been very pleased with my Di Pricols. This mornu=ing on my way to work the white "Dot" in the center of the pyrometer fell off  That's right, FELL OFF. It was apparently glued to the inside of the lens, now it is rolling around the bottom of the gauge. :( We'll have to see what the manufacturer has to say about that.

I was just reading up on gauges and lighting and re-read this thread.

A suggestion for you guys that have uneaven lighting from one guage to the next (i. e. the EGT gauge is brighter than the rest). Do not wire them in series. wire in parallel, but insert diodes in series with the dimmed 12V source that goes to the brightest gague. A cheep rectifier diode 1N4000 series from Radio shack -- each diode reduces the applied voltage by . 6V approximately. The result should still track the dimmer switch perfectly.

The SRT-10 A pillar and the SPA EGT/Boost is calling your name...

I went with the Boost & Pyro. Boost is in an SRT-10 pillar mount (perfect fit), and the pyro on an Autometer column mount.

Yeah, yeah, the pyro lighting is just OK but I'm happy with the result.

I posted pictures of the gages in my readers rig album in the day and at night if you want to see how they look.

I used the Autometer phantom series boost gauge and purchased an SRT- 10 A pillar from the dealer. This set up looks OEM and the night display is so close it doesen't matter. I t- tapped into the orange /brown stripe wire in the connector going to the light switch-- and dimmer function works perfectly. NOTE-- there are two orange/brown stripe wires in this connector*****

Use the one closest to the center NOT the one @ the Top! The top is opposite of the clip you must depress to remove the connector.

The orange/ white wire designated in the instructions from Geno's does not exist in the 04. 5.

brightness

I think it is rediculous that some are recommending adding this and adding that to make the EGT "look" right. Isn't this Dipricols job? If I were putting my name on a product---you could bet I'd have it done right. The other to gauges are super---an exact match to the factory DC gauges. The white dot in the middle of the EGT just doesn't cut it. I don't know why they didn't make it just like the other two, where the white center sweeps with the needle. I'm going to give them a call and do a little complaining. I love the guages, but come on! Aethetics is a big deal for something you have to look at every day. Has anyone else called and complained? Maybe they will give of a "fix"

sshelly,

Let us all know what you find out.

I am perfectly happy with my gages (I do appreciate a "good looking" modification as much as the next guy), but I bought it primarily to monitor my exhaust temps. So much the better that I could get one that was a close match.

As to why the pyros don't match the other gages - I'll put up a quarter that they don't make their gages and the get them from two entirely different suppliers. Why, then, can't they specify how THEY want it to look? They probably account for only a small % of the gages that their supplier makes.

Most likely they buy gages from an OEM that has tried to tailor something close.

But then again, I might be wrong. I am interested to hear if you find out anything, though.

I'm very happy with my Di-Pricols.

However, the first time I drove it at night, I noticed the Trans. Temp was a little brighter than all the rest. I put a 15 ohm resister in series with it. Perfect match now
