I'm getting a nasty sound out of my clutch when I push the pedal in. It sounds like somebody turning a set of brake drums on a drum lathe. I mean you can hear this noise ten feet away. I called SBC and talked to woody he said its normal. He said it is the center plate rattling between the two discs.

If I had known it was going to make that awful noise I probably would not have gone with this setup. It makes the truck sound like a POS and I get weird looks from people walking by. Has anybody else experienced this noise? The funny thing is it never made the noise for the first 500 miles. I only have about a thousand miles on it now. I am running the DD kit for the G-56 Part# 360012CB. Thanks in advance.

do a search for dual disc clutches you will find that all of them do it, some worse than others. i have heard that if you get a fluid damper that it will calm the noise down some. for most people the noise wont bother you being that you dont sit and hold the clutch in. ive heard that it only happens when the clutch is depressed, so you should only hear the noise for a second or two at the most. yes woody was correct in saying that it is the center plate between the discs.

The problem is it isn't just when the clutch pedal is depressed but the whole time it is depressed. Wether it be 2 seconds or 5 mins waiting at the order window at macdonalds. If I sit with the truck out of gear it sounds like the transmission is about to rattle apart. So I always leave the clutch depressed when waiting. Its pretty bad when someone pulls up next to you at the stop light ,and laughs because your clutch sounds like its trying to destroy its self.

All those noises are perfectly normal for doubel disk clutches. I have heard various ones before and thy all make noise. It's just the nature of the beast. I am surprised you never heard about this before you bought the clutch. I too had talked with Woody about my decision for which DD to choose and before he even recommended me a certain DD he explained the amount of noise that comes from the assembly. I told him I didn't care cuz the truck is not a daily driver anymore and I probably wouldn't be able to hear it over the stacks anyway.

Your just gonna have to live with it or put a normal single disk back in. As long as you have confidence it was installed properly, I wouldn't worry about the noise.

No pun intended, but I would not sit at a stop light or drive thru window with the clutch depressed all the time anymore cuz you'll be wearing the heck out of your pilot bearing and throw-out bearing real quick. Not to mention it doesn't do the pressure plate springs or stock clutch hydrolics very good either.

Have fun with the DD and ignore those idiots looking at you funny cuz of the noise that comes from the clutch..... squirrels don't know any better. :-laf

The noise from mine doesn't bother me... it is the sound of horsepower being put to the ground! :D

Seriously, I wasn't expecting a noise that loud when I first installed the DD. After the first 3rd gear dump and peel out all the way across a 4 lane intersection I got over the noise really quick. This was versus the smushy feeling of the FE clutch I had before feeling like it was trying to tear itself apart. The DD is also way more driveable around stop-and-go compared to the FE.

If you don't like the noise it makes with the clutch pushed in. . Take it out of gear and let it out!

It's not good on the master and slave to hold it in forever anyway.

You should also have a bit of a rattle out of gear as well. . But I know mine makes much less noise that way.

Yeah, most people know going into it that DD's are loud. They transmit more noise through the stick, make noise below 1500 rpm's, make noise when you push the clutch in, make noise when you let it out, make noise when you are just sitting there, make noise when you are driving, make noise when you turn the truck off... lol

But thats why I love it. :D Oh, and because it works the way it should! :D

all this talk is really making me more anxious to get mine. i cant wait till it gets here. thanks again to Dan Vallance. Oo.

I guess it's time to upgrade the stereo system. It would be way cool if somebody could develope a clutch with the drivability of a stocker and holding power of the Iron giant. You all have put my mind at ease about the noise being normal. and if anybody looks at me funny again i'll leave about 30' of black marks behind them as they walk by!!! :-laf

my thoughts exactly... I wouldnt mind a DD -

The noise is only when clutch pushed in, right? I mean you can take transmission out of gear and let clutch out and it should be quiet, from what I hear.

Lots of trucks make noise when the transmission is in neutral too. There are no dampening springs on the DD, so you are hearing gear whine from the transmission and such.

I think I am going to post a video of a DD in neutral just so we can get everyone on the same page! :-laf

please do my clutch shipped out today. so i should have it installed by sunday.
