So here's the latest thing... .
I drove home this past week (about 1500 miles round trip). Heading home, I noticed that when I would drive for a few hours, then stop, my truck would not idle back down to ~850 rpm... . it would stay right around 1000 rpm.
I still haven't tapped my pump wire, so this would have been on 1x3 (trying to squeeze out some mileage).
Driving around all week, it never happened, but when I started down I-95 yesterday, it happened again. I found that if I shut off the truck for about a minute and restarted it, the problem went away, and it idled normally again
I'm a little worried about this - it's as if my truck read my mind and just knew I was about to tap the wire... . it has a strange tendency to require work (always involving $$$) just before I do something I actually want to do.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I checked for codes - nothing came up. It also seems to smoke less after prolonged driving with the comp set to 1x3... takes a little while to get back to the level I'm used to seeing with it set on 1x4/5.

6 speed?

I've been reading up on the APPS... . all indications seem to point to it.
However, the one question remaining is how does the cruise control play into it? When this was happening, I was using the cruise, not the pedal. My understanding is that the cruise control bypasses the APPS and goes straight to the ECM :confused
I'm supposed to be going back up to VA this weekend; I'll drive with my foot this time and see if anything changes. In the meantime, maybe I'll try recalibrating it.
This might be a dumb question, but will tapping the pump do anything to worsen the situation? I finally got my new pump cover and would really like to try it out, especially with the drive coming up this weekend... .
