I've been running a straight pipe for two months now and I never really thought it was very loud. This was confirmed by the wife when she was in the truck the other day and said "I thought you took the muffler off?" Granted, the resonator is still in place, but it's just a straight-through expansion chamber, right? What do I have to do to make this thing sound like a Peterbuilt? I don't have time for a turbo-back system at the moment, I'm just looking for some immediate (cheap-quick) suggestions.

Thanks,

-Adam

Hack out the resonator and deal with the drone or go 4" from the resonator back w/o a muffler or go to a full 4 or 5" straight pipe, Stacks work too.

If you want more noise loose the resonator and the turbo silencer ring and add an AFE Megga Cannon :D

If you want loud you'll get loud! (I love it)

Cut off the resonator, put a 3" to 4" adapter on your 3" pipe, get a 4" 90 deg and 4" 45 deg elbow, a section of 4" pipe, a hanger, some clamps and blow it out in front of the rear wheel. It will be loud I'm sure. Also as told, get rid of the silencer ring, and install a BHAF, K&N or AFE for real turbo whistle sounds. Shouldn't cost much either for the pipe. The filters can get pricy but open element filters really help flow the air.

i had 3" duals on from new, then i put a 4" downpipe with 5" stacks, i recently took the stacks off and have been running a 4" downpipe only... u want loud try that, until i get time to put the duals back on. u run a downpipe only ur wife will be makin u put the straight pipe back on. take her down the highway at 2 grand doing 70mph... :--) ITS LOUD!!!!
