When at a stop sign I hit the pedal and my truck basicly moves but theres no put you into the seat feel till after up to 200 feet sometime then Its like the old gas engine 4 barrel carb kick in. Is this a normal thing with the diesel?? . 2, I have heard alot about the lift pump going out and I am not confident to do gauge or even where to put one. Everyone here is so good they probly know in sleep, but this is my first and I have no idea even on how a good diesel runs. Is the gauge the only way. If so where does it go and the how to's would be a great help for problems and solutions Thanks Much for input. Terril. Reno.

New to Diesels

Terril

I too am new to diesels, but you can bet some of the others will pitch in here.

To help them out update your profile with the

year

model

# of drive wheels (2x4 / 4x4)

trans type

drive ratio

you can also include cab type, bed length, modifications

other info is entertaining but usually doesn't help the wrench guru's solve your problems

When I stomp it I have on occasion broke the tires loose, but for the most part acceleration really comes when it shifts to 3rd while RPMs are increasing (possibly what you are feeling at about 200 ft).

Turbo Lag.

Yes TBarrett, Its pretty much normal on a stock truck, Its called turbo lag. You can get rid of some of it with a chip, what year is your truck? The 01 s arent quite as bad as the older trucks because of different turbo.

Check your hose clamps

I would check all your clamps, from the turbo to the intercooler, they have been known to loosen over time. Unless you are running with an HX40 turbo and no fueling enhancments, you really should not have that much lag, IMHO.

I doubt your lift pump is to blame unless you feel a noticeable stumble at hard acceleration and or observe white smoke exiting the exhaust. In my very limited experience, they seem to go hand in hand when the lift pump is going down.

When my truck was bone stock, I had very little lag with the HX35 turbo, it should spool up real fast whether you have the HX or HY turbo.

TBarrett, the lag is totally normal for a stock truck,if you want it gone, get an EZ edge box,it will get rid of 90% of the lag, come over to the "dark side",my 2000 used to have terrible turbo lag,not any more,LOL.
