Oh yes nothing like paying top dollar for the cheapest sheet metal they can produce. IM glade to see I not the only one that feels this way. Now IM glad I did not get the bed sprayed with a bed liner. So now I need a bedliner to protect the bed and a sheet of plywood to give support to the bed, and a rubber mat to stop me from getting splinter in my rear. Thanks Dodge.
 
to me you can always tell a lot about a vehicle by getting in and closing the drivers door, with the 3rd gen you hear a thud with a tinny sound, kinda like the outside door skin is flexing and you can hear it when its closed firmly
 
Years ago I dropped a big piece of green oak fire wood right thru the bed of my 54 chev. Oh well I made a mistake. The OEM cant design for too much stipudity
 
DPKatch-um, The usual assumption that nothing could be wrong with the truck, maybe it was the guy who put the item in the bed...



Anyways, the beds in the 2nd gens are terrible, but the 3rds are worse. Your better not having either. Maybe look into a flatbed. Sucks to see any bed after the mid to late 80's are junk. nothing good to buy anymore...
 
Try this, when fueling up the truck with the nozzle in ... . stand back and watch the side wall bend, just from the nozzle. . . .



Ya know, if Dodge didnt have the Cummins, they wouldnt be selling trucks at all.
 
I'm begining to think the only thing that will last is the CUMMINS. We loaded a Canary Palm(they're very common here in South florida) i guess it wieghs 800 or pounds and when we rolled it off the to drop it on the driveway, it crushed my tail gate right in the center about 2-3 inches. i don't how to post pics otherwise i'll post pics of the tailgate and the palm. I guess i'll buy a ford and rebilt the engine every 150k miles as long as the body holds up.
 
If the outside of my bed gets dented or bent, I am going to find a local body shop and have them weld steel strips laterally on the bed for rigidity... Then get it painted to match... Maybe fab some heavy gauge sheet metal, and hang it off either side of the bed to act like a skirt!!!!

Had only GM trucks for 12 years and they all had the same thin sheetmetal so don't blame it on just Dodge.



I helped a guy put a body lift on his 2000 Chevy pickup. We forgot to take out the screws hold on the fuel filler fitting in the bed before lifting it. You should have seen the look on his face when we saw the side caved in after lifting the bed (by hand).



I told him... no worry... we pulled the screws and popped it right out.



Aslo, I had a brand new 1993 Chevy 6. 5TD 2500HD. I decided to install cab clearance lights. After I was done I noticed dents in the roof from my hands. I was ******.



It's all the trucks.
 
Its the 25 plus years of dealing with the public. Always TWO sides to a story. Usually lots of facts omitted or slightly changed to suite. We all do it to a certain degree. I asked how was it LOADED. I also wonder how it was secured. I leave a open mind to everting until ALL the facts are known. Now EBOTTEMA knows about EVERTHING(I'm not saying more due to rules of the site) and most of it negitive unless its a 96 12 valve. NOTHING is built with the same thickness of metal as years past. But the metal today is far less prone to rust/rot then ever before also. Its got its plus side in weight savings and other advantages. These 3g trucks are the best driving/pulling rigs built so far hands down compared to previous year models.

I take into consideration the HUMAN factor which tears up and subjects machinery into unknown realms. Not saying it shouldn'thave done it but HOW many POSTS have WE read about 200lbs seperating a bed? ONE! Heck we all have SEEN older trucks BENT behind the cab going down the road. I guess it was a defect. Of course the bed itself didn't bend,the FRAME did. Ever wondered what it took to do that to one.

My '03 has carried transmissions, engines, 55 gallon drums full of water, lumber & a full pallet load of ceramic floor tiles. No dents in the bed or the tailgate. I have Linex & a rubber bed mat on top of that. I have removed small chunks of linex from the tailgate when sliding engines, diffs & trannys onto the bed, but no dents. :confused:
 
We have the same problem at work, everybody thinks that the tail gates on our service trucks are the place to carry a load? I like to use the tailgate to hold the things that I put in the box. We have all makes of trucks at work (ford,chevy,dodge) and all the tailgates and beds look the same. Smashed! None better than the other.
