just had the check engine came on... pcm-0071,ecm-1693(dtc detected in ecm/pcm).

anybody has any idea whats thats all about before the lot monkey will damage the truck????

there is no change in power or mileage or gage readings.

whats a DTC anyway?? inquiring minds want to know!

A 1693 is a generic fault indicating a fault in the bus or PCM/ECM interface.



A 0071 on the other hand is an Ambient Air Temp/Irrational Performance fault. I believe that's your IAT sensor. I don't know that the outside air temp sensor will set a fault but I'm not sure about that. Either the connection is dirty, the IAT itself is dirty, or the IAT is going bad (not usually the problem). The IAT is a thermistor that is used to measure air temperature in the manifold. That error may be causing the 1693 due to bus interference of some type.



Clean the IAT sensor and it's associated connector. Disconnect the batteries while you do this and is may blank your fault. It will have to be cleared from the computer using a scan tool.
