The local guys who own new(er) trucks tell me they have a Bully Dog/Bank/Edge etc, installed the "chip" and they have an extra 100/200 HP on tap. When I ask about an upgrade to injectors/turbo/exhaust/inner-cooler they look at me like I don't know what I'm talking about... ... ... .....

So I would have to assume from the reactions I recieve, there is no need to upgrade other engine components when installing a "chip? Yet, there seems to be a need with the 12 valve engines.

I have 9 ISB's in my fleet and only wrench on them enough to keep them running. I have never tried to boost HP.

Thanks

The common rail engines are easy to manipulate with a box or tuner. The electronic injectors will do what the box tells them to. The box can make them seem a lot bigger by holding them open longer to inject more fuel. The boxes also manipulate the timing of the injection events.

If you are running more HP you may need a bigger turbo to keep it cool. Just depends on how big you go.

The open exhaust will help it breath and help keep the EGT's lower. But alot of trucks still run a stock exhaust and have 400HP.

The stock innercooler is good for most people. You really only need to go bigger if you are making huge HP--600+

transmission upgrades are also needed when adding 100 HP or more.

Truth be told alot of guys really don't know what the box they have on their truck does and have no idea of how it affects the engine or transmission. And then wonder why they have problems when adding that much HP.

"The add in the magizine didn't say anything about other upgrades needing to be done"
