2009 auto computer into 2009 stick truck

Based on the P2262 code and physical issues where it seems the exhaust brake is sticking open, I'm thinking a new actuator or re-built turbo is right around the corner.

Today new issue. High EGT's at a stop. 1,000 deg. F and not coming down. Upon moving still high then more normal. Some very slow no load driving and they're starting to climb to 1,000 deg. F again.

So why such high temps with no boost, idle RPM's and what seems like no added fuel?

Is it safe to turn the engine off with 1,000 deg. F temps. With my old mechanical 7.3, I waited for temps to bottom before sitting down.

Thanks,
John

Well, if you have intact emmissions, that sound's like a regen event. If no DPF then that is very strange indeed. If you shut off with those high temps, it's certianly going to bake some of the oil in the turbo bearings for sure.

Michael,
I've had a EGT gauge since 2008. I've never seen anything like I saw today. It might be as simple as a bad gauge. However this with all the other recent issues makes me doubt a regen. I'm still leaning towards an actuator or turbo. Thanks for your help,
John

John, When I was stock with my 2008, I could see 1450F at idle, but normally around 1100F or 1200F if the truck was in regen. The way I know I was in regen was to check the overhead console and use the MPG display along with the EGT gage. If the gage went above 1000F and the fuel mileage went down, than I was in regen. My probe is pre-turbo, in the exhaust manifold.

I would turn the engine off if I was around 1000F on the gage with no ill effects , when I was stock. If I waited for the EGT's too cool down I could wait all day and the truck's EGT's would never get under 800F. Just saying.

The 6.7L engine was redesigned to handle the higher EGT's for the Tier IV Bin 5 emissions requirements. This is one reason that the stock trucks from Dodge/Ram do not come equipped with EGT gauges. The general public would flood the internet with all sorts of questions and concerns over high EGT readings form operating the truck.

I think you are still stock correct? If so, with the age and miles on your truck, I would suspect that the DPF will be in Regen more often trying to clean the soot.

Jim,
I'm still stock (probably not so in a few months). My probe is pre-turbo, in the exhaust manifold since 2008. I've never seen the overhead console give out regen info. I've always identified regens as EGTs in the 1100-1450 range for about 10 minutes or longer. My idle temp is 500-800. If I interupt a regen (eg braking) temps drop fairly quickly.

Maybe my truck is changing the way it regens as it ages or the is DPF wearing.

I'll get back to you in a few months to get info about a delete. If I do delete, what MBRP exhaust would you suggest? I'll probably work with City Diesel for an actuator or turbo rebuild. Seems like ELive (or whatever its called) might be a tuner for me. I don't want more power, I just don't want to do a DPF delete after a new turbo (do it all at one time kind of thing).
Thanks,
John

John, my 2008 truck does not provide regen information either! What I watch is the MPG out put when I am driving, the display will show the current MPG estimate such as 14.8 MPG. When the truck went into regen the MPG would drop to under 10MPG sometimes less. I would than look at the EGT gage and this would be over 1100F, since extra fuel is used in the DPF to burn off the soot I know I was in regen.

I am just pointing out how I know I was in regent at the time.

Check out RaceMe (bascially the Smarty, but it can be used to delete (for racing purposes only, of course). The basic Junior has 4 levels, and stock power level is one option. If you are thinking about this, you may want to get the items you need while you can, it has been getting more difficult to find these items.

As to your EGTs, knowing you are stock, I'd say you are seeing an aging DPF and longer Regens. They eventually need a deep of the vehicle clean, or replacement. If you are getting up there in miles.. it's likely about that time.
