So now that CI-4 is not going to be available what are you all running?

I tried Amsoil and I am a dealer but with the bad UOA I have got I need to change a lot more often.

See this thread:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com...ns-2003-2007/193501-oil-analysis-results.html

I have enough CI-4 Delo 400 at home for my oil change this weekend and I know where I can buy some 5 gallon pails of it. I may go and stock up.

I have not heard anything good and some bad about the new Delo 400 CJ-4 oil and I will not use it.

I am just curious as to what everyone else is using and what problems or reports have been made.

TIA, Joe

CJ-4 alternative

D-A Lubricant Co makes a high ZPPD oil available to the antique auto hobby in 15-40 grade. Info at www.classiccaroil.com Haven't tried it yet and do not know if it is appropriate for diesel use but would certainly us it for any flat tappet engine. I am ordering some for my 62 Vette.

CenPeCo is still making CI-4+. They told me they weren't planning on stopping to make it either because the CJ stuff didn't protect older engines as well. They said that is why they still make steam engine oil.

I heard schaeffer's was going to continue to provide CI-4...

With your short intervals, you could probably run any CJ-4 without problem... I have some good UOAs of Rotella.

Regarding your bad oil analysis results - I have had one experience where my oil analysis came back equally as bad as yours. Since I was sampling my oils's progress along in mileage, I decided to send in another sample just in case something might have been screwed up with the first one being tested. My second sample came back telling me my oil was just fine and could go another x-number of miles. Go figure here, one sample really bad, 200 miles later, oil is just fine. I changed companies for my oil testing, sent out a 3rd sample of the same oil a couple hundred miles later, the analysis said my oil was OK.

I have enough Valvoline Premium Blue CI-4 oil stacked up to do many oil changes in my truck but I also use it in my diesel generator so making the choice as to which engine gets priority with the supply is where I am at now.

I am undecided at this point in time whether to go ahead and see how the Valvoline Premium Blue CJ-4 does with oil analysis or to go ahead and switch to the Amsoil AME 15w40.

I do not want to have to be switching oil brands all the time as manufacturers start dropping off the CI-4 to the CJ-4. I am leaning more toward going with the Amsoil AME now that I have plenty of miles on the truck and it's broken in. I use synthetics in all my other vehicles - bumper to bumper and have been very pleased with the outcomes of using them over the years. Outside of the engine, my truck is already an Amsoil truck.

This was the 3rd sample that was not good from 2 different companies. I am sure that the extra fuel, short trips and Smarty contribute to my problems. I have thought about leaving the Amsoil in and adding a bypass filter, but I think with all my short trips I need to just go back to dumping the oil more often.

That is why I started this thread. I want CI-4 oil, I have heard bad things about the delo 400 CJ-4.

I will probably go and buy a bunch of 5 gallon pails of the CI-4, but I was just curious as to what others are doing as this oil leaves the shelves.

I use CI-4+ Rotella Synthetic. I get it at WalMart

Bingo! Rotella has some new packaging for their 5W/40 but it's still CI-4. It's the only thing I'll buy at WalMart (somebody please tell me Rotella isn't made in china!!) but I don't see that 5W/40 anywhere else.

Most of the guys on the TDI (VW) web-page are doing 10K mile oil changes on Rotella with good results. Oil analysis shows the oil good for probably another 10K. I would think with the Cummins, and no EGR, we could go 10K miles easy.

If the freezing rain stops maybe I will run down to Wal-Mart and see what they have.

That's about the only thing I will buy there also.

All I use is Rotella Synthetic at 5K changes. Does everyone change it at 10K? I've never sent my oil off to be checked so I don't know if it is OK or not.

I use 5-40 Rotella in the Jeep (Diesel). I heard that it was going to be gone in Nov, but I'm still finding it. Last time I was at the Chevron distributor they had CI in 5gal and as far as they knew that it would be available for a while.

Yep, once they are out of CI at the distributor they are out.

I am going to stock up unless I find a better option. It was the cardlock in St. Helens that had the best price I found.

Wait what? Amsoil is no longer doing CI-4? I thought they were going to keep doing it?

I didn't say that, did I?

I am having bad UOA with Amsoil at 8,000 miles.

I need to change more often there for I need a cheaper oil. I like Delo but have not heard anything good and some bad about the new CJ delo.
