Forrest Nearing, years ago I bought a Renault, the owner was going to make a dune buggy out of it. He was selling it as he couldn't keep the front wheel studs from breaking. He showed me one of the wheels, it was very heavy. It was an altered wheel, the mount (stud portion) was designed to make the track much wider, excessively wider, also the mount stood out from the rim, plus the tires were very broad. The original wheel mounts were about center of the rim, (Surprise, Surprise, wonder why?). I forget the number of studs but about 4. by viewing the wheel, tire and method of mounting, I could only think, "Hope springs Eternal!". He was trying to alter the original design, without taking in consideration of the original design. I've also seen Engineered? designs also fail. As he had lost interest in it it was for sale, I bought it so our sons could use it on our field to practice driving, for thrills they had their dirt bikes. (four wheels are for Grannies, their words not mine).

Is the center line between the wheels, on a DRW and the center line of the wheel on a SRW the same distance from the hub?



I keep tossing an Arrowcraft kit around in my head. My logic is that I would have the same weight on my axle, just more tires under it. But, I am unsure of how much this would effect the bearing loading.



Does a DRW axle have a larger outer bearing than a SRW axle?

:-lafIf it were me I would run 1 inside and one outside. That way if there were bearing issues you would get longer wear on one side to offset the shorter life on the other. Mike
 
Agreed... . this thread means nothing!You buy a dually for the extra towing and hauling capacities and then try and pinch a few pennies on each fill-up. I still think bearings would not be hurt on the short or long-run. ..... let us talk about something important... . When my hi-beams are on does it cost more fuel to run them? Can i just run the low beams to save the strain on the alternator... . ultimately saving on fuel?Thanks in advance for all inquiry's.
 
AClayton, I have read where car racers would lower the current from the old time generators, to not rob the engine of power. Wonder if they knew anything? (I still wonder)
