I made a trip to Birmingham today and picked up around 2K of iron. I noticed at times the truck seemed a little flat on power. well I got toward home where the hills get bigger and heres what happens. The truck wont rev real high like around 2500 and it falls flat on its face. boost will hit 25 at best and then when it hits that it drops off to like 10 could easily hit 35 before. checked under hood found no obvious things. the power is good to about 2K then its just dead. no stumble or hesitation just flat. I have a 3k governer kit. Any ideas as to what I have going on now?

Thanks in advance Patrick

I would ck the fuel filter first. If that is OK them check the turbo it may have dumped. If the bearings are bad it will rub the impeller. That will slow things down a bit. The transfer pump maybe? or the secondary fuel filter in tank?

Check and make sure you don't have an air leak on the intercooler piping. And from personal experience the fuel shut off solenoid make sure its pulling the lever all the way up. And you could check the overflow valve spring could have broken also.

Thanks guys so far it is not the solenoid pulls up wide open and I wired it up to be sure it was staying there didnt help things. Beleive it or not the local stealer did not have a fuel filter in stock!! so I did not fool with that I found a diesel shop that will do the filter change for me tommorow am. From there I have checked the cooler lines all secure and no loose stuff or missing pieces anywhere. I am suspect of the filter and bad fuel? it will run good for a few miles and then act up for lots of miles. no fuel economy issues and no smoke. cant be to serious I hope. I think I may just part ways with the beast and trade up. this truck has not been the best cummins I have ever owned for sure.

No smoke and power

No smoke, no power could mean a problem with the AFC side. Look for a bad/leaking boost line or a blown wastegate. If an intercooler line/hose was leaking, you would have lots of smoke and high EGT.

Don't forget the fuel pressure. Weak lift pump or overflow valve can cause loss of power at upper power demands while performing ok in moderate power range.
