Now you can get a Cummins in a Volkswagen

I just saw a press release on a Norwegian truckerspage that Volkswagen are coming out with a brand new heavy truck for the south American market that are powered by a Cummins

They didn't say much about the truck itself, or what engine they will use, try to do a search on "VW Constellation" for more pics and info.



But ugly ain't it?

Probably to keep their overall wheelbase as short as possible. Remember most of the roads in Europe were chart paths long before Chris Columbus even knew what a boat was.

i have always liked the cab overs... [although i do like the newer aero styled conventional cabs like the mack vision. . ]

In Europe we have to turn with our trucks. . ;-)

When visiting my grandma in Edmonton Canada I moved the steeringwheel 2 times in 2 weeks.

Seriously the maximum lenght is 25. 5 meters in Sweden and even shorter in middle Europe i think.

Swedish truckbuilder Scania and Cummins have developed Scania HPI(High Pressure Injection) together since 2002 and has previously decided to start the development of XPi-Xtra High Pressure Injection.

Basic reason why LCF trucks make more sence is capasity. Just that simple.....



Take a conventional truck with a 200' wheel base for example (I don't know the exact numbers here). and you can manage to get what a 10foot flat bed or steak box or something. Convert that SAME FRAME to LCF design, and you can manage now a 12 or 14' bed/box.



you can also manage more weight on the frame since you can put more on the front axel since you are close to it.
