Competition Englishtown to host 2 diesel drags in 2003!

Competition DDP dyno event?

as the only Ford guy in the mix, I must tell you it was certainly impressive watching the Red Rocket make the trip down the track and I have seen it before,

but I think I caught Nowel on a few occasions looking "lustfully" at my old 6. 9!!!

:D :D :--) :D

It was a lot of fun watching the stands near the lights evacuate everytime Adam started spooling up those turbos in the staging lanes... ...

good job, old man, look to see you in Rohnert Park if not before!!!!

big jake

I bow to the king. Who, btw, didn't give me the time of day when I called, lol. I had to verify the numbers with my buddy Adam. You know how Nowel gets. Congratulations!!!!!

Nowel & Adam deserve a huge round of applause for their efforts on Saturday. As does everyone who helped put the intercooler hoses back on after each run.....

I was lucky enough to be the first vehicle in the lane right next to Adam when he staged for the 12. 0 run. For a second, I thought I'd get to actually race against him. Yeah, no contest there..... 12. X vs 16+ Ets..... Anyway, I got literally a "back" row seat for the awesome 12. 0 run. When Adam launched, those tires bit so hard, it honestly sounded like metal being ripped in two! I was watching from the stands for the final run, the one that would have been the 11 second run, until the hoses blew off about 3/4 way down the track.

Great to see everyone again.

Weight

For you diaticians out there, the "Rocket" weighs the same as it has all year. We are still just under six bones without a driver. Lightening the truck is not the reason we are going faster.

Let me clarify a couple things. We have added fuel this year and we are making more power as a result of that, and a lot of boost. I'm hitting 90 pounds of boost now!

We are making a lot of horsepower on fuel only. Over 650 as of our last dyno test. This is with a stock cam, my port work on the head, Performance Diesel twin turbos, a wonderful drag comp fueling box, Performance Diesel custom injectors, Performance Diesel fuel system. This is one reason we are doing well campaigning a fuel only truck.

The other reason we are doing well, and knocked off a third of a second from our time, is some new trans technology. We are testing a Suncoast transmission with excellent results so far. We can make a bunch more boost at the line before we launch. Adam was going for it on one run and he was over 30 psi boost and when he let the brake go he lit the tires and went up in wheel spin. IOW, too much boost before the launch:D

Once we get off the line we lock the converter. We picked up . 33 on our ET and 3 MPH on the top end.

We will likely break our auto transmission with the torque and hp my truck produces, however I would like to thank Ernie and Joe at Suncoast for making my truck go into the 11's.

Good job everyone! 12. 05 is FLYING!!

Virus

I just picked up a nasty virus. Slipped past norton and encrypted all my email. Nothing is legible. I may be out of communication for a bit.

No doubting here, I just wanted to know if it was the same so I could play with some formulas is all.

I can see it now. . a 6ft high pile of truck parts in the pits... Nowel with a smile on his face and says. . I think I'm ready for time trials... got all this stuff laying here out of the truck LOL [transmission, rear end, radiator ect. ect. ]

sounds like a Stroker Magurk[sp?] cartoon as you see a grease ball holding a big bunch of wrenches and hammers. . oh and don't forget a big nasty painters crack :p

I'm confused, you added more fuel to make more HP, but you say the transmission gave you . 33 on your ET. What was you running before?

No, he didn't say that.

I didn't say that you are being a jerk either. I can't believe I have to repeat what he typed. Nowel stated that they are locking up right off the line. In the next sentence he stated the time difference. But no where do I read him saying that because of locking up early it has knocked off the time.

Experience has taught me that locking up just passed the 60', traction, shift points, spooled boost, and air quality determine my elapsed times. More fuel hopefully creates more hp which is usually reflected in the mph.

You would have to have a complete data acquisition system to figure out exactly what was different that day. It could have been the weather, the track, the transmission or just a combination of the above. If it is something that he has figured out that puts him ahead of the rest of us, why in hell would he want to share it? He has to remain competitive.

I am feeling some what arbitrary today aren't I?:D

Performance Diesel Going Faster

I hope I haven't confused things to badly here. I didn't pinpoint what was responsible for exactly what and at what time.

We ran 12. 8 in vegas which was the first time we ran with the slicks. Later after we got home I pulled the head, ported it, O-ringed it, and added fifty horsepower worth of fuel.

When we got back to the track we immediately went 12. 6. Then next trip we went 12. 4. On the third week we ended up with a 12. 3 before we broke. Enter the new transmission:) Saturday was the first time we made any runs of consequence with the new transmission and we recorded a drop of . 33 in ET and an increase in top speed of over 3 mph.

Again, we haven't lightened the truck to make better times. We HAVE added fuel and are running 90 pounds of boost now. We do have a trick transmission with some new stuff that put us right on the first clean 11 second time for a 24v truck.

The truck is going into the welding shop where we will tab the pipes and safety wire everything together to eliminate the connector problem we've had. Then it's back to the track to get that 11 second time slip!Oo.

Again, sorry for any confusion I may have caused.
