Nowel Thomas' passing....

Hey guys.....

I wanted to bring to your attention the following, which, I'm sure by now you've all seen posts on...

Nowel (HVAC) Thomas has recently passed on. I personally know only a very small bit about Nowel but, I do know this... .

He is, was, and shall forever be one of the most respected and well regarded individuals in the light truck diesel sport community.

Nowel, like too few others was one of the fella's that would answer your calls, your emails, and any other request for help, ideas, or assistance.

HVAC personally made this sport an up and comer. Like other guys who were of like mind, he'd take parts off his own truck to help you out or help finish the day/meet/competition.

We've often reflected on the quality of the guys here, in the 1st Gen Forum. We've expressed our delight at the willingness of pretty much everyone to answer the same questions over and over, to share new ideas and kick around what can at times be rather esoteric in nature.

If we don't express our appreciation and support of sportsmen like Nowel Thomas we'll soon find ourselves WITHOUT sportsmen like him.

Would you all be agreeable to my posting a sticky naming Nowel (HVAC) Thomas as an honorary lifetime member of the 1st Gen Forum. You would all be encouraged to express your thoughts so that future members/1st Genners/visitors would learn a bit about Nowel and how we treat the best of the best... . ???

You could for example do some searches for his posts, get an idea of the man, his character, and his personality... in the event that you'd like some form of "referrence" when posting... even some of his great one liners' would be fair.

If you feel this is not appropriate for the 1st Gen Forum PLEASE, feel FREE to PM me and I'll keep your PM absolutely confidential.

This Forum has always worked well when all voices are heard and considered.

Pastor Bob ~ Moderator, 1st Gen Forum.

I'm all for it! I didn't know him personally, but I have come across his advice on several occasions on this site.

He deserves every last ounce of respect and honor we can dish out to him, and more.

Memorial, dedication...

Great idea Bob. My condolences to the family of Nowel Thomas. I hope some family members read our Forum. Nowel's legacy is a fine role model to all of us... "May the Holy Spirit lift your hearts. "

Patrick.

He sounds like a very helpful member to direct questions to.

New members and not so new with "new problems" need somewheres to turn. Helpful people who go out of the way are the backbone of this organization. These people need to be recognized for their efforts. Just my opinion.

Bob, I think this is an excellant idea. I don't think anyone would have a problem with it.

Just for info, a little off subject here, but there is a trust setup for Nowel to help cover expenses from this ordeal. He didn't have any insurance. There is a posting on this in the "competition forum" and they have set up a trust with an address for anyone wanting to send in something to help out. They have also set up a paypal account if anyone would like to send money that way. tThe Email address for the Paypal account is -- email address removed --

I think all the support being shown is great. I hope that if anything ever happens to me that my wife and family receives even 10% of the support given to Nowel, that would be fantastic. I think most of us would feel the same way. Great group of people here. :) :)

willyslover,

Yes, that's the kind of thing I think would fit... . some of the things he did that was above and beyond the call, refused to take payment for, etc...

I think it will set an example for the new guys/visitors who stop in here and get their 1st impression only once... if you know what I mean.

Bob.

I never had the chance to meet him personally. I am impressed at the amount of knowledge he had regarding this hobby and just being a "gearhead" as we would say! There aren't enough people out there in the world today like him (if only there was).

I send my condolences to his family and friends in this time of mourning.

God Bless!

Phil

You got my vote pastor, 'cept I can't help with any stories, unfortunatly I have learned more about him in his passing than before:( . He sounds like a good man, and a good person for the sport. We need more like him.

I pray God will be with his family and friends.

If you lead pastor, I will follow!

Make it a sticky

I didnt read too much about Nowell, and never had the opportunity to meet him, but do remember reading some of his posts when I first joined in late 2000. He seemed to know his stuff. Why good guys like him are taken from this earth too soon, yet @$$holes like Bin Laden arent, will forever be a mystery to me. (I by no means wish to make this political, his was just the first widely recognized name I came up with).

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. The world has lost another great guy.

Being a Newbie here, I can't say that I have any experience with HVAC, but... I believe that it would be a great thing to do.

1st gen's to the NEW ones... we all still drive the mighty CTD's... He should be remembered in some way.

Sorrow does not express....

I never personally knew Nowell, but he and I had thrashed back and forth on here at times, all in fun. Nowell also offered advice that helped me make desisions on what products to buy and watch out for through Performance Diesel. HVAC was at the front of the pack when it came to HP extraction on the 24v ISB, and he will be missed by all.

My heart goes out the the Thomas family!

Just got on for the first time since last year (posted about my SO). Sorri to hear about HVAC and did know him. If someone would have used the members directory, there are a few of us here in Albuquerque that could have "assisted" the family (my RV or home would have been open to them). Not tryin to raise any problems, but this would have been another use for the listing(s).

Hope all things are more "settled" and the only reason I caught Nowel's pass was looking at the ads and saw his truck was sold. Think the memorial fund/trophy is a gud idea and maybe the last race of the year in TX (where he was headed) would be the place for the trophy (if it becomes so).

My prayers and thoughts to all - I met him in 2000 at the Long Beach Thomas Dodge weekend. We talked for awhile about the power and where he was headed (powerwise). A little driveway smoke and marks later that day proved to everyone that the Cummins "Rocks". He was just up to the added propane at that time and all we needed was a BBQ in his bed to assist with the cookout (#2 & propane would have made a GOOD Flavor) :D. RIP and someday we will see you agn. The loss is not only to his family but to the world "family" he has/had (John & Mario & others).

Sorri I missed out on soo much but our lifes will go on and be better for his knowledge that he imparted upon us all in one way or another.

To all, I'm around but very busy with my loose ends. Trying to get "set-up" to leave Albq and move to Lake City on a perm basis.

SOTSU!! (a little part of HVAC's doing is my "sig")
