My '03 just turned 100K and still runs good, but has always gotten crappy mileage. I'm in need of advice. Should I get new nozzles with a small bump in HP,such as the 50 HP nozzles? Or is it a waste since I have the 100K miles and I need to think about new injectors with upgraded nozzles? After reading bout folks having injectors and pump failures with less miles,I'm concerned something may go tits up before long. Should I drive it till problems show up or replace now. If I don't replace fuel parts,I will redo the transmission.

I just got my new Smarty Sr POD and I'm real surprised at the power available. I've not turned it up past 6 and It didn't starve for fuel, but it did tax my transmission at 6. I know I'm on borrowed time with the Smarty. (would love to turn it up all the way, just once):D All I'm looking for is an increase in fuel mileage vs all out performance.

Thanks for the info.

Also,I need a recommend for injectors, have no clue who makes a great injector for our trucks

Of course this is just my opine and I'm no expert.

I have the Dynomite 50 HP's injectors I got over two years ago thinking I would bump up to more pzazz especially since I had the money and went from 1995 to 2005 in my 95 GM K2500 Sub/6. 5 TD with half the power until at, 476K it ate a valve. SO, with all my new found thoroughbreds under the hood of my new Mopar, I was ecstatic and immediately got into TDR, other forums as well as magz reading up on all the juice one can shoot to their power plant.

Not one to jump into anything w/o research via many sources, I decided to BE KOOL and not to treat my rig like some nit whit and see what I can do to make it break sooner.

My 05 now has 176K on it and I am running Super-Chips in the tow mode (left over from last weekend) as I towed my boat round trip 600 miles loaded with four and all our gear. Today driving 150 miles RT very light, I noticed better fuel economy on my readout than when it was programmed for performance so I am going to leave the program as is for this tank and see what the difference will be. I don't know anything about the Smarty POD other than what it is and, I chose S-C based on what I learned from others in the diesel performance biz I. e. Dynomite Diesel here in my neck of the woods.

That said, you might want to try keeping yours just cruising as is and hold off on the injectors unless you know for sure you are having problems caused by them. I've heard from some that, at 100K it's time, but I have more miles on my rig in less time than you and more fuel through them and I seem to still be getting 18+ mpg tank to tank and on the freeway reading anything from 24 to 28. I'm always loaded with a few hundred Lbs of tools and or towing my 12' loaded job trailer.

ALSO, I was told by the guys at DD that when I do install mt 50 HP nozzles I will want to set my ECM back to stock.

Hope my 2 cents helps.

If your sprayers are good I would leave them factory until some type of problem develops,if your sprayers are good and you want to put new tips MAKE SURE YOUR'S ARE MODDED AND NOT EXCHANGED. I would do the tyranny 1st. T&C never sells on the platform of better mileage some get added mileage some don't,buy on performance ( that we can promise) not on mileage,Mileage (If You get it) is additional benefit.

Redo your transmission and add better filtering to the fuel system first. That will do more for mileage and longevity than the nozzles. Unless your looking for more power or have an injector problem the nozzles and a new injector should be at the bottom of the list. They are adequate for what you are doing and expensive to do correctly.

I'm always looking for more power since I have the 250 HP engine. :D Just reading about people having injector and lift pump problems with less mileage kinda gave me the noids. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I change the fluid and filter about (I'm guessing) every third oil change and have never found any metal by products and there seems to be lots of adjustment left on the bands.

Do you suppose I could get away with a new TC and VB and hope I can go another 100K since I don't tow any more or race the truck? I'd like to hear peoples 2 cents about this.

Thanks again-Casey

If your trans is not showing any issues then you should have good luck with just a TC and VB or shift kit. Anything can happen of course but if its been serviced and adjusted you should be good.

You will have to upgrade the LP to use anymore than SW 5-6, at that point I am seeing the pressure drop below 5 psi. I would imagine you are close there also.

If it was me I would fix the transmission and fuel delivery first then worry about injectors.

Wait! Thats what I am doing! :-laf Next up for me is fuel system upgrades. ;)
