NP 205 Transfer Case Lube

What is the recommended Lube for our NP 205 T-boxes?



75W90 Gear Oil?



I believe I have Amsoil Series 3000 75W90 Gear Oil in mine... . Does this sound correct? I forget - I guess I haven't changed it in a while!

Service manual says ATF+3 or more

If I recall correctly, the NP205 uses gear oil and the NVG241 transfer case uses ATF. I would not put ATF in a NP205.

Thanks for the info! I dialed up the AMSOIL Number and oredered $160 worth of elixures for the First Gen.



Thought I would do both axles, transfer case & NVG while I'm at it.

Due to the gear design in the 205 you must use a GL5 rated gear oil with an EP additive package. Typically this is a 75-90 GW or 80-90 GW oil - which is also the same viscosity as 50 W motor oil (ISO VG 220). The gear oil has the additive package needed by the gear teeth loading - the motor oil does not.
