Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) np 241 dld pops out of gear

Hey guys my 95 4x4 cummins with auto kept poping out of gear likke in neutral, assuming transfer case was the problem i pulled it apart and the olny i found was plastic pads laying on bottom of case and large snap ring that holds syncro in place, i know its not normal but would that cause tcase to pop into neutral. I failed to mention when it shifts into neutral shifter in cab doesnt move

those plastic pieces go on the shift fork and take up room... probably have bent fork also and will need synchro... plastic pieces fall out and then gear doesnt go all the way in and causes synchro to fail and bent fork comes from trying to make work after broke...
