i blew my transfercase sled pulling and want to change from np241 to a np241hd and was wondering what for modications are involved and if there are any advantages . thanks for any replies. truck 2002 2500 6speed twin turbos south bend 3850 double disk 5 in stacks fass fuel 150 hp injecters drag comp hr vp44 pump

you will need to have a new slip joint and your drive shaft shortened. The HD is longer than the LD. You sure you don't have the heavy duty already? I thought almost all of the 6 speeds had them. Look for a PTO cover.

thanks for the replies will i have to modify the front driveshaft or just the rear one . how much stronger is the 241 dhd than the 241 dld. thanks again for any replies.

I would install the 271 also. I have heard that because there is a PTO cover on the HD it is not that much stronger in the case area. I installed a 271 into my race truck, the output shaft on that one is even larger than the HD241. I had to buy the output from the dealer as no one seems to be able to get it.

so is the 271 better than the 241 dhd and if so how hard and what all do you have to modify to install. thanks again for all the replies

The 271 bolted right on to the tail shaft of a 47RE trans, the only differance was the rear yoke, you may have to madify the front shaft also. The 271 might not have the vaccum switch for the front axle in it. Mine had a electrical switch.
