:{ i have a 96 dodge 1ton dually 4x4 with the nv4500 np241dhd combo and i cant keep a transfer case mode fork in the damn thing. ive had it rebuilt 4 times already in the last 8 months. i do 0 heavy halling or pulling with the thing and only drive it about 80miles a week. this last time it broke it even bent my speedow to the point where it wont work. i just need help to fix this dang thing. the mode fork is half eatin through on the back side looking at it from the pto hole. and the shaft moves in and out from the back about 1/2 an inch. :{ i keep getting told its from inproper shift linkage but i never even hooked up the linkage never needed the 4x4. buy the way i never had this problem till i had it rebuilt. its just starting to **** me off its race car season and now dont have my truck again.

Are the plastic pads still there it sounds like the pump is not working short on lub you can get a new pump from National Drive Train in Chicago for around 25. 00 well worth it. It has a 31 spline.

Take the transfer case to somebody else. They are not putting the range fork and shift rail together right. The fork is loaded to one side after they are done and it is wearing out. Like you know the trucks linkage has nothing to do with it. It is just a lever and rod that has no detents for shift position except a neutral gate.

Sounds like someone rebuilt it wrong.

Best case might be to find a new or used one. . Then find someone else to rebuild your existing. I`ve found some good stuff on car-part.com

good luck

Ya i know only problem i dont have an extra 750 to 1500 to throw down right now. i have a hard time keeping my cool with the people ya know after ive had to pull this thing 4 time in 8 months. but yes its was worn almost 3/4 way through the fork. is there anyway to test the pump? And is the output shaft supost to have play in and out because mine moves like 1inch maybe 2 in and out. i might just yankit apart my self and rebuild it.

The output shaft will move a little in and out maybe an 1/8 inch. I'll bet if you pull the tail housing off you will find a broken or missing snap ring that holds the output shaft. The snap ring goes on the shaft and against the bearing. Pull the output shaft all the way back and you should see the snap ring groove right at the bearing inner race. Anyhow I'll bet you found out why the shift fork is wearing so bad.

YA I did that but it was still there and not broken,I called the people to see what was up with it and the only thing he could say was that it needed a new fork and the shoes . I was like well i want to know whats causing it to keep doing it but of course he dont know. I asked him about the pump but of course he said that he thinks its fine i dont know when i get it back i might just put one in there my self.

Well, I'm at a loss as to why the output shaft is moving that much. But it's should not move vary much. It seems to me that after 4 times of the same thing going bad that they should be finding out whats wrong and fixing it for free. So good luck, I'm out of ideas.

The output shaft does move about 1" pull it apart it is not that hard its not rocket science I just put in a new internal seclector replaced the syncro dogs and springs and range fork and range fork hub Is it the steel fork that is wearing or the Alu one if its the steel one the slideing sleeve may be on backwards.

Ya i now its not rocket science this aint my first rodeo but when you pay sombody 1100 bucks to rebuild somthing and it breaks 4 times in 8 months its a little messed up. So ive had it apart but i didnt do it the first time so the only thing i could see was that the mode fork was half ground through and the output shaft had play but all the snap rings where there and not broken. But i can tell you it bent the **** out of my speedow sinser

Ok well i got my case back today and put it in and the first thing i did was pull the pto cover off and its not pumping fluid that i can see. Any help please i have to fix this my trucks been down for 2 weeks and i really need it bad. i think its supost to pump like a oil pump. .

You have the rear wheels off the ground and are running it to see if the pump is pumping fluid Right. if so the part # at national drive train is NV24956 31 spline pump

Their # is 800 507 4327 talk to Kevin on EX 5621

ya i have the drive shaft out but ya with the pto cover off and there is nothing pumping that i can see. i should see it right squirting or somthing like that? and if so then its not for shure

I orderd the pump to day. Where is a good place to get the hose that goes to the pump or can i just get one from napa? Also can i replace that with out spliting the case or do i have to split it apart. I only ask because if i split the case it voids my warinty thanks
