Thanks for the info guys. I will use teflon tape on NPT's and probably a light assembly grease for the compression fittings. I have learned a lot about fittings now and feel better equiped to properly install them. The TDR does it again!

Don't know what you are piping up but teflon tape won't hold diesel fuel. There are some good thread sealants that will though, just read on the label and see if it is recommended for your particular need. bg

I didn't know that... . that's good info. Diesel eats the Teflon?

Note! Pipe sizes do not refer to any physical dimensions. The outside diameter of a pipe or fitting must be measured and compared to a table for size identification. A 3/4" NPT pipe thread has an outside diameter - OD - of 1. 050 inches. The pipe size generally refers to the inside diameter.

FYI

Pipe sizes DO refer to physical dimensions. Pipe size figures are listed as NPS (Nominal Pipe Size) and don't change for a given size. What changes is the ID due to the Schedule you get (ie. wall thickness). Pipe sizes above 12" NPS have the same OD as the NPS. Click the link for a chart.

For example: A 2" NPS piece of pipe always has an OD of 2-3/8". Depending on the Schedule (or wall thickness) you get, the ID can be 2. 245", 2. 157", 2. 067", 1. 939", or 1. 689". (Schedule EH means Extra Heavy, but we use XH for X-tra Heavy in the awlfield. Same thing. ) ;)

I use Leak Lock sealant. I got it from my father-in-law that works with it on heating oil and refrigerant connections. It seams to be very good. And yes, Ryan some have had problems with Teflon tape on #2 connections.
