Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Nv 241 Transfer Case

Has anyone replaced the front output seal without dropping the transfer case?



If so anything special to watch out for?

Yes,



Remove skid plate, Remove driveshaft at tcase end and tie up out of the way. Remove old seal. I destroyed mine getting it out due to being sealed in. Replace same. Watch out for scarring up the housing where the seal sets.

Ditto, about a 3 on a scale of 10.



You need to remove the output flange too but it isn't anything tricky. I don't recall if I needed a puller. I used my trusty Red Devil 1 1/2" putty knife and a dead blow hammer to start the old seal out.

Easy

I just did mine when I did the clutch so it was out but it was real quick, hardest part was getting the old one out. Got a new one and it had a flange so I just used a BIG socket to tap it in. My yoke / output housing didn't need a puller, But it was leaking like a siv. Got all nasty underneath.
