On page 105 of issue 37 of the TDR, Mr. Patton's article states the owner's manual suggests changing the lubricant in the NV 4500 manual transmission every 30-50K milles. On page 200 of my owner's manual, it states, "This transmission is filled with 75W-90 Synthetic, API grade GL-4 gear lubricant and does not require periodic changing. " To what owner's manual does Mr. Patteon refer?

Mine was fine at 150K. I replaced it with a high quality oil, the one that is spelled out for you on the PTO cover.

I changed mine today, 6 yrs, 41,000 miles. I grimaced and bought the MoPar oil. The old oil was translucent brown. The new oil was clear. Probably about time, with the heat and towing.
