I will possible be doing an auto to NV 4500 conversion in the near futrue. My friend has a 1995 that he wants to make an auto and I'll be taking all of his 5 speed parts. Will all of his parts work with my truck. If not then which ones do I need to get. I would like to assemble some of the parts I would need ahead of time if there is any to get. Thanks Pete

The trans, bell housing, clutch etc. will be the same and I'm 99. 9% certain everthing else will fit as well. I'm not speaking from experience on an auto to manual conversion just from the fact that not much drivetrain related was changed from '94 to '97. In 1994 I think the autos were a 47RH and by 1997 they were a 47RE (electronic). I think there will be an issue with the PCMs however and I'm not sure what would need to be done wrt. to that or if the PCMs will switch over. There are a few guys on here that have done the auto to manual switch that I'm sure will chime in once they see the post.

Yeah it sounds a little wishy washy and it's not exactly the info. that you're looking for but that's all I got.

The transfer case will not bolt up

The automatic transfer case has a different spline count than the manual transfer case so you will need to swap transfer cases too. Might just as well swap drive shafts also. Keep in mind the the 241 HD transfer case was available in 97 and it will not work on an auto or a 241 LD drive shaft, although I imagine you can get an adaptor to take care of that issue if you don't want to make a custom drive shaft. Have you considered just swapping trucks? Ken Irwin

Ya, But he just got the 95 and it is a 3500 dually and it was converted into 4 full doors. So i'm sure he wants to keep it. Will my T-case work if I just change the spline in it to match the spline on the 5spd? Anyother problems that you can think of.

i just swapped mine about a month ago, the pcm will work just fine. there are a few wires that need to be bypassed, 3 i think, while the trans is out you should fix the fifth gear nut. after 1 week of fun with my 5 speed i lost fifth.

JRosengrant, could you send me a PM with the details. I'd love to hear how it went and were you got the parts from ETC... You can post it if you want. I'll be getting all of my parts from a 1995. What year were yours from?

It probably can be done.

Why not just get a transfer case for a manual transmission truck and sell your automatic transfer case. The wires are a minimal issue compared to the hardware involved. Drive shafts are not cheap. You can probably change the input gear in the transfer case but is it worth it? Be much easier in my opinion to get another transfer case from a junk yard and sell yours on the TDR. IMHO Ken Irwin

I think when my friend and I make the switch I will take his t-case and he will take mine. I talked to a guy around Pittsburgh Pa that can either make the drive shaft longer or shorter for about $150. Thanks

Holy cow, Pete... You've just about yanked the trans out of my truck already, LOL.

I don't mean to rain on the parade, but this 5 speed is pretty nice. I really like it over my old 6 speed and I may keep it.

I do have a GM version of the NV4500 but as everyone said, I think just the guts are the same.
