NV 4500 conversion

I am finally ready to swap my Getrag for the NV 4500. I see many vendors offering this kit. High Impact, Standard Gear, Drivetrain.com, and most of the prices seem competitive. Are there any preferences on this site or for this kit? I am working on a 91 4x4 truck I have since new and replacing cab and all. Thanks for any advice.

I bought mine from Quad 4X4 out of Roberts MT 9 or so years ago and was impressed with their kit. I understand they no longer make these kits. They do however have what appears to be a great fix for the fifth gear problem in NV4500HD in 4X4s. They also supplied a VHS to assist in the installation. My kit was thorough and included everything I needed for the installation. If the suppliers you have noted are as thorough in their kit as mine was you should have no problems.

I just swapped my '91 from auto to nv4500 not long ago. I had a parts truck, so I didn't buy a kit. I can't be of any help on your question but just wanted to say good luck, it was not that hard of a job and the end results are great.



My dad put a 4500 in to replace his getrag and they had to cut another hole in the floor. They put sheetmeatal over the old hole and then covered it with new carpet and it looked really good. Good luck.

I used Blumenthals kit,and had good luck so far with it.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Some of the outfits can produce nightmares and I was trying to avoid that.

I have had really good results with Standard Trans and if I were doing the swap, I would approach them first.
