Per Six States im useing a combonation of Redline Oil there MTL 90 and there other oil i for get now its in the shop the bottel ive been running it for 5years now with no issues .

Six States the Distributors for NV4500s were haveing problems with other oils includeing the oils GMand Mopar reconends so if they recomend it and will wareenty it its goodenough for me .

I have had problems with the synchros lasting like they should so I'm trying to figure out if there's a oil related problem .

I considered many suggestions from people here on the forum and ended up just getting it from the dealer. If you talk to them a little they will give you a break. It seems that for not having to change the oil, one could afford a one time fill with the oil of your choice.

For the NV4500HD you will need an GL4 rated gear oil NOT a GL5/GL4. Redlines MTL90 mixed with their Syncromesh (I think thats right) gear oil -50/50. Amsoil also makes a GL4 rated oil their Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube is a GL4 rated gear oil. You can call them and they will tell you what to use. The reason you should not use a GL5 rated gear oil is due to its effect on yellow metal due to the phosphorous used in GL5. If its GL5/GL4 rated the very fact that it is rated as GL5 makes it the wrong oil for the NV4500HD. GL5 will not create an immediate problem but rather a long term problem.

Yes thats correct Bob its a GL4 oil must be used and yes Redline will recomend the exact mix to use , but it must be a GL4 mix . Im also running a filter and it does help plus adds extra fluid capacity , I just need to get anouther , i just cant renember were i bought the last one .

I just found my "cheat sheet" from Redline. Their recomendation is " 2 qt MTL + 2 qts MT-90) basiclly a 50/50 mix.

Bob

so are both those oils red line products? I've only been able to get 3 years out of my 3rd gear synchros. everything else seems fine but the 3rd gear synchros .

Mine has been in it since 05 with no issues and shifts like new and its a mixture of Redline oil the 50/50 mix So im not shure what other peoples problems are but it never seen other oil in it before igot it rebuilt so maybe thats it ????????? , it was rebuilt when i bought it

I have been using Torco RTF for many years in both NV4500 and NV5600 transmissions, with no detrimental action on the synchronizers. Its GL6 package doesn't attack them. Since your problem is only on third gear, I suspect it is caused by something else, such as frequently working them hard, meaning the drivetrain and engine rpm are far different during the shift.

If you are running the Eaton PTO plate filter, they have them here at Geno's Garage.
