I have been driving my new conversion crew cab the last couple of days and I seem to have a slight growling when I shift into 4th below 30 mph and load the motor to hard on the gas, I mean throttle. Now bear in mind that I do not have my carpet in yet and the hole for the shifter is open and the boot is not in place. It is loud inside the cab. I got the carpet in today and will be intalling it this weekend.

I think the sound is normal. I had the carpet and shifter boots out for about a month while fixing water leaks. Boy, what a difference in sound. There were a lot more vibrations in the cab plus a lot more noise. I know what you mean about the ttransmission growling. I don't have the NV 4500, but I have the Getrag 360 and if I shift into 4th between 20-30 miles per hour it will make the growling sound until I get up to higher speed. Must be a vibration or something. Well there's my input. See ya

As you can see by my signature I also run an NV4500HDin my '93. I'm pretty sure that the noise is normal. It's been with mine since I installed the NV last Sept. When I had my rear wheels off the ground to check driveline alignment I started the wheels moving in 4th and it was really growling. Once I got the rpms up the noise went away. Hope this helps.

thanks guys. I hope the new carpet and sound deadening mat I bought will help the noise problem. If not I'll just crank up the stereo. I will just not load the transmission to hard at low rpm.

Hey Mark, where did you get your carpet from? Mine came from Auto Custom Carpet and was really a heavy duty piece. It was much better than the original. When I put thsi carpet in I couldn't hear the truck. It was amazing how quiet it had become. This will deaden your sound a lot. Good luck and take your time while putting in the new carpet, then it will fit like the old one.

I got the carpet from summit. I think it came from Ohio Auto Carpets. I will check. It seams to fit fine. This is my first attempt at carpet so I am trying to get it to lay down right. I am probably too picky. I does not appear to be real thick though. I took some advice on the forum and tried a co out of Canada that makes a sound deadener like Dynomat called Brown Bread. It works great. I finished the front tonight and put the seat back in and took it for a ride. Man is it quiet. I cut my finger on the foil backing and can't hardly type.
