I am trying to disassemble my NV-4500. How do yo get the output shaft apart? That spanner nut? on the back will not come off. Any help would be appreciated.
Try a little heat on the spanner nut. If it was assembled propperly it will have red loctite on it and torqued to over 350 lbs. It really helps to have the propper spanner wrench, but a pipe wrench wacked with a dead blow hammer also will work. Wedge some rags into the gears to keep them from turning. Hope this helps.
The nut on the tailshaft holds it all together, you'll have to get it loose. Use caution to not get it too hot if you have to heat, Loctite will let go below 400° so if it changes color you're too hot.
If you have an updated split nut then there is a set screw on it clamping that nut to the shaft - look for it, if it's there you'll have to loosen that first.
