Just changed the lube in my 4500 with 2qts MT-90 and 2 qts MTL per Dave @ Redlineoil and oh my goodness what an improvemnet in shifting! It literally falls into the next gear nearly effortlessly. Truck has 121500 miles, bought it used so don't know if it has been changed and what fluid was in it. Anyway great improvement and wanted to pass it on.

I used the same combination of Redline fluid in my Chevy NV4500. It works great. It also made a huge difference in my Nissan transmission.

First I've heard of this-Tell me more.

This is GL-4, NV-4500 uses GL5.

Tell me more.

"This 70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity) is designed for use in manual transmissions and transaxles. Provides excellent protection of gears and synchronizers and its balanced slipperiness provides a perfect coefficient of friction, allowing easier shifting. Popular in many BMW transmissions and in most Honda and Acura transaxle applications. "

Well, first of all NV4500s use GL-4. Don't know who told you they use GL-5, but your syncros won't be loving life that much if you are putting a GL-5 rated gear lube in your 4500.

I'll second that improvement when I went to Redline MT-90 as well. Mine just fell right into gear too and was much smoother through accelerating as well. Great product Redline puts out, definatley worth the $7 per quart.

Hey Joe,

How many miles you been running that redline stuff?

Scott

Oh, I'd say about 40K+ or so. Still shifting as nice as the day I noticed the difference when I put it in. :D

im running 4qts of mtl and my transmission doenst shift very nice unless im double clutching. would dumping 2qts of mtl and adding the mt-90 help or should i consider rebuilding. its not intolerable but not as nice as people say this transmission should shift.

If I'm not mistaken MT 90 is what is required for our NV4500. That's what I use.

No, it's actually that Castrol Syntorq stuff from the dealer and other places but it is way to expensive IMO when you can get the $7 per quart Redline. :)
