I'm putting the 91 back together and when I put the cab on the frame I had to cut the hole larger for the replacement 4500 transmission shifter. I was surprised how far back I had to cut. I had to cut for the transfer case shifter too. Anyway, I have this gaping hole where the old shifters came through and was looking for ideas on how you others covered it. I was thinking of brazing a piece in but I have it painted already and the dash is in and I'm afraid it will make a mess. Ideas?

I would just cover it with a piece of sheet metal cut to fit and use SS sheet metal screws to secure it in place. That is what I did. I then used Dyna Mat insulation to keep road noise down. Works fine for me.

sheet metal, pop rivets and some seam sealer/caulk .

^That's probably the best idea but if you wanted to get fancy could could have something plasma cut from 3/16 alu, bolt it down and make it look good as opposed to trying to hide it. If you give me dimensions I can make up a DXF for you that you could send right to the plasme/waterjet place.

I found a piece of stainless yesterday and made a nice cover but

wow that stuff is tough to drill. Plasma cut it beautifully but drilling the holes up under dash wash more than I bargained for. Gotta find someone with a small right angle drill to finish there. Aluminum would have been a much better choice, I may still look for some of that, thanks for the ideas.

Very sharp drill and even pressure, medium to slow speed and a lubricant. Motor oil will work but they do have special fluids for cutting stainless.

Look on Ebay or Craigslist for some sheet metal aluminum. Maybe a local sheet metal company. Also, a local A/C company will probably have some laying around, that's galvanized... . Most A/C ducts are made of it, and it's pretty tough..... And might be free if you find the right guy or dumpster... .
