Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Nv 4500

I was told a few days ago that it is good to overfill the NV 4500 by a quart or so, is this true? I have always filled mine to the normal level and I have over 200,000 miles on it and it is just now having synchro issues, I was just wondering if overfilling it would help or if you could have some problems with seals leaking because of a higher oil level.

I wouldn't. 200K is not bad durability for a 4500.

Tom, thats kind of what I was thinking, just hated to think I could have made it go longer by just filling it with one more qt of oil.

No problem, too bad you can't wait 6 months till I get back from the war zone, I just bought a 5600 I'm gonna stuff in, my 4500 has 75K on it!!!

I bet who ever told you that was thinking about the old Getrag. It seems that over filling by one quart was necessary on those. I've never heard of anyone saying that the 4500 needed an extra quart.

Yeah thanks alot Supermod I was looking at that but I'm really cheap and you guys bid that up too high for me, well that and the wife would kill me since we're buying a house in a month and a half or so.

Sorry Tim, and I haven't told the wife yet!!!! (She wants that new house also) Got a bellhousing for it on the way also for 300 bucks. Not too bad
