At about 35K I drained out the stock fluid and put Redline in... It seemed to work well, but lately I am really having a hard time getting into reverse. Even if I double clutch, and slide it into another gear first... not sure what is going on, but I don't like it. I think I'll try switching back to the stock fluid, if that doesn't help, guess I'll take her in and have the transmission/ clutch looked at.

I now have 44,000 on my 03', and I changed the lube at 8,000 using a different brand "Full Synthetic". THe lube is still in the transmission, and it shifts very nicely, and I never have any problems in getting in any gears. IF you have to "FORCE" it in to a gear, something is wrong!

The at times hard to get in gear and at times not etc. does not sound like internal manual trans problem. The low and reverse thing also does not.

What does it sound like, a clutch issue?

With about 1,000 miles on mine I switched to a 5W-30 oil that starts with an "A" and mine has shifted MUCH better ever since. I mean yeah, the NV5600 is basically a medium-duty truck transmission but it does shift much better than with whatever it was that came in it. I still don't get the starting in 1st all the time thing. It's GRANNY LOW!! H*%#!!! even 2nd is lower than most 1st gears in other vehicles.

Wish 1st Gear was way slower

Yes, I use 2nd gear when starting from a stop when empty. I was hoping that 1st Gear was a real slow moving Granny gear Seems to me 1st is geared to close to 2nd

I have to place it in 4whl low range to go slow enough at times I also wish it had front axle hubs I could have in free wheel when doing this.

I almost always start in 1st. My owners manual specifically states that you should start in 1st and use all gears to maximize clutch life. That's why I do it.

On low geared vehicles when starting in the lowest gear clutch life is greatly increased by my experience. Had a 96. 5 Nissan Truck with the H. D. package. V6 14 inch truck tires and geared lower then the standard V6 truck. Was higher reving of course but sold it with 269k 6 years ago and the factory original clutch. Would still bark 2nd gear. Took NOTHING to get it to move from a stop. They were NOT popular sellers. L/B no carpet standard cab LWB. Saw it in N. Georgia with a ladder rack and a guy working out of it a year ago. I think I sold it too soon!

The owner's maual SAYS a lot things. And of course they're going to say that. Years ago they used to just call 1st "LO" for when you REALLY needed it. 1st gear starts (when empty of course) in these things will get you bug strikes----from the rear! ;)
