Can some one out there please clue me in to the amount of fluids a 6 spd will hold, and what size is the allen wrench for the transmission fill. 17 mm. ?

Is it supposed to be filled up to the filler hole or just below ?

I bought 6 qts, and had a little left over but I don't remember if it was 1 or 2 that were left. When I filled mine I filed it until oil ran out the fill plug, right or wrong. 17mm is correct for the fill plug.

Recently installed a new NV 5600 in my 98. 5 3500 and with truck sitting level on stands, I could only get in 1 gallon. After a few miles I decided I had better check the level again and it was full up to the plug. There was a very small amount left in the gallon jug. What's up?

It musta had some residule oil left in it, I would get it warmed up and change it again if it were mine.

cheers, kevin

As far as the 17mm fill plug... if you go to a place that carrys VW parts, you can get a 17mm allen socket, because that's what old bugs used for the oil pan plug.

I sucked mine dry with a suction pump, then when I refilled it the nose of the truck was sitting about 2" lower than the rear and 4 quarts filled it to slightly overflowing. . .
