What are any of the long term problems anyone is having out of one of these NV 5600's, anytype of major failures to little stuff, thanks

The biggest problem is that it is out of production and parts are scarce. Other than that, I think it's pretty reliable.

one issue I have heard is with the syncro's, but this only happens if you speed shift alot or hot rod alot. another is not useing the correct lube. . . not going there

past that. . . klenger is spot on

IF it breaks, oftentimes the transmission body gets trashed. Jasper says $500 charge if they have to replace your trashed core, which they say happens on a relatively high frequency.

Thanks for the info, I'm definitely in the speed shifting category, thats the reason I asked, I have noticed a little difference in there not alot but some.

I can't speak for the racers, but for heavy work this thing is as close to bulletproof as you'll find. Sorta like the engine, just change oil and go.

My original lasted 128k , towing heavy the last 25k, just stacks of trailers before that. The next one went approximately 40k before it lost 3rd and 4th. Had the orriginal redone and have had shifting problems ever since, still working with the shop that did that one, have to go in next week and see what the next step is.

I just ordered me some Redline MTL and I'm gonna try changing, I've got 79,000 and I have never changed  hopefully this will help everything, I try for the most part to treat with respect, but I have been known to speedshift in an ocassional street race with another diesel, or giving someone a thrill ride.

Here's a silly question from a non-mechanical person, so please be nice.

Has anyone ever investigated how hard it would be to swap in a G56 when we get to the point we can no longer get parts for our beloved NV5600?

Just curious, Steve

I believe some stealers were doing that when they couldn't get a hold of a 5600... but then again, why? Like to see some one come up with a swap for something along the lines of a roadranger 10 speed or so!

my neighbor lady long hauler has 310000 on her '03 3500 DRW NV5600 flat bed and hauls in excess of 26000 lb some times. The transmission has never been touched but has had two clutches.

Well surely someone in the aftermarket will buy the tooling and save our transmission parts for us, but who knows maybe kinda like my 92 g360, nobody wants to fool with it, who knows what may come up with... .
