The shifter rubber bushing makes this trans feel like a an old h***. A weld is in it's future. I can't feel the gates very well. Enough movement that gates 1-3 feel covered while locked in 1st. After finding this I don't feel so bad about grabbing the wrong gear - 5th instead of 3rd at times.

Does the rubber bushing wear out?

Any reason I shouldn't weld it solid? Looks like core shifters offers a replacement 'Hurst' shifter without the bushing in it.

Just wondering if this is a good idea and why it was made this way in the first place?

Bump.
Does anyone know if a new shifter from Dodge tightened shifting up? Is there a large amount of noise with a solid shifter or welded factory part?

There's a hell of a buzz that comes up the shifter. Both the rubber mount and the weighted shift knob work together to squelch it.

Used to be able to buy a isolater kit for Road Ranger trannies and weld them into the stick (to muffle the whine of a hard working transmission). Not sure if they are still available and don't remember Part # anymore. (cut stick....weld one end on transmission side and other end on cab side. Was a pin that went through sideways to hold to pieces together and allow separation if needed. M. Wilson will have knowledge of this.
