NV 5600 Short Shifter

how far is the "throw" with the short shift??? For example---how much does the knob move from 1st to 2nd?? I think I need one of these but would like to know this before I shovel out the 200+ bones.

Don't have the measurement, but it feels like about half (actually 20%). I know there is a whole lot more room for me to get at the cup holder for my coffee. If you go to the B&D website they have a picture that might be helpful. http://www.bd-power.com/ram/shortshift.html I sure changes the whole shifting experience, really fun to use. Oo.

I think BD claims 20% but I measured 30% reduction in throw. I took measurements before and after and posted it. (I was skeptical too) I can't seem to find that anymore. I got used to it quickly but when I took it out, wow I missed having it. It seems to be holding well this time. I like it.

I noticed that my kit did not have the bushings, nor were they listed in the parts list, shown on the B&D web site. My kit was a new one and the instructions were dated March of 04. I think there may have been some sort of redesign, if so, that would explain the price jump.

30 percent difference

BD short-shifter = 30 percent less travel from gear to gear. Great idea but agree with whoever said you get used to it instantly!



The Whiplash guy takes your stock shaft and sends you a replacement that is bent in the boot, which places the knob about 2" closer to your leg. I like it, it's kinda neat looking, but don't consider it a "must have" item.

You know that BD actuall stands for "Big Dissapointment" don't you?? Do a search on me and read the horror story that I went thru with BD before you throw your money away... ... ... .

Sorry to see your problems but it seems to be a problem with '01's. Not to discount the issue you had and it sounds like BD's CS was pretty poor but it seems the 6 speeds have had little problems. The search definitely warranted a second thought about purchasing.

BD might well be a big disappointment, but that sounds more like a personnel problem than it does product quality. Their short-shifter works well in my '03 6-speed. However, I will say that when I saw the shift pattern disk rotating on top of the knob, I thought it was the shift lever rotating and called BD. The person I talked to could have been a bit more polite. Instead of being sympathetic and listening to my problem, he simply snarled and said it wasn't possible it was being caused by the short shifter.

All of the problems that I and others had with the product did seem to be occurring with the 01'. The dissapointment came from them when I attempted to discuss the issue in a calm matter of fact manner, I got the "head in the sand" response. If the product works for another member, that is good. However, my rule is you burn me once, you will NEVER get the chance to do it again. Therefore I will never own ANYTHING from BD. I believe each member should make up their own minds, as we are all adults here. I simply want for each member to have all the facts on which to make their decision.

I couldn't agree with you more there, Sarge. Sorry about your bad experience. I spoke with the folks at Geno's before buying and they said that they sell a bunch of them and have not had one returned and that they were a quality product. My good friend, Fireman liked his a lot and I drove his truck when I was in Tennessee and really bit right on the hook. So far, so good with my shifter.

I read your posts in the products forum last year and I hate that you had a bad experence. If it had happened to me, I'd feel the same way and I wouldn't give them anymore money either if they wouldn't at least attempt to make me happy.
