I have a '01 2wd truck with a nv5600 transmission. When I refilled the transmission, I was unable to get the complete nine pints of oil in the transmission. The latest TDR magazine indicated that the fluid level should be at the top of the fill hole or higher. With the transmission installed like it is [rear end lower than the front end], how much total oil should I be putting in the transmission? Getting more fluid in the transmission is do-able if I jack up the left side of the truck up. I am concerned about filling the transmission so full that the front seal leaks and oils the clutch.

I am currently getting a chattering noise when starting from a stop in second gear or at low rpm in third gear and I am wondering if this due to lack of lubricant to the front of the transmission case.

Thank you for any help you can give.

I overfill mine a little. You can do this by either filling from a bolt hole in the PTO cover, or by removing the shifter assembly and filling from the top. I think It calls for something like 4. 75 quarts, but i overfill another quart. What kind of fluid are you using? you could also look into adding a friction modifier. I think there is some info on this if you search the forums.

I currently have Amsol synthetic Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid with no additives in the transmission.

yeah, i run the same fluid with no additives. Seems to work pretty well but seems to be a little short lived. Gonna change mine again soon, but i'm thinking about trying something else.
