Hi,

My truck has started leaking transmission fluid at the rear main oil seal again. This is the second seal in 13,000 mi and now it appears to be due for another one. I have recently changed the transmission fluid for the first time, and when I refilled the trans. I filled it to the bottom of the filler hole. Does it sound as if I have over-filled the trans or has another seal crapped out. And if it sounds like a seal, what else besides the input yoke could be causing the problem?:( :(

I always make it a point to fill differentials and trannys until lube starts flowing back outta the fill hole - and that includes my '02 dodge - no leaks so far, but only 6500 miles on the clock...

I'm over 78,000 now and no leaks on my 5600. Have run it on 5W30 Amsoil since 12,500. Could something be out of round or off-center:confused:

Since this seems to be a repeat failure, I would CAREFULLY inspect the yoke sleeve for any defects that might contribute to early failure - and I seem to recall some incidents where the wrong type seal was used in some differentials that were also suffering from repeat failures - when the proper design seal was installed, no more failures - something about the design of the lips of the seal where they contact the yoke surface...
