Sunday I drained my NV271 Transfer Case and using my 2003 D. C. Service Manual, added 4 pts as specified in the front of the manual. I don't remember what page it was but in the section on fluid change around page 623, it says something to the effect of the fluid being even with the bottom of the fill hole. It took 5 pints (2. 5 Qts of Mopar ATF+4) before I could find fluid by putting my finger in the fill hole and bending it down. My instinct is to continue adding fluid until it reaches the bottom of the fill hole. My guess that would require another pint. Anybody else find this or did I screw something up here????? And yes, the vehicle was level at the time of fill. Help me out guys. I have a nagging feeling I missed something here or maybe it just isn't that big of a deal. Enlighten me!

Fill her till she's runnin out the hole, been doing it that way for years.

No emulsion, no worries, your good to go. ;)

Mac

Thanks to all. Especially to Ryan for the link. Vey helpful and I got the warm fuzzy! Gonna top her off tonight.

I was at the dealer last night and bought some oil for my transfer case. According to the parts department ( I was there when the parts man looked it up) it takes 6. 5 pints of oil to fill the transfer case. So I think your on the mark.

Thanks David! I put 6 pints in there and almost to the drop it began to run from the fill hole. Plugged her up and haven't looked back. BTW, I was one of those troops! I was in Oman during Operation Enduring Freedom and the lead up to Operation Iraqi Freedom. You have no idea how much it means to me to see you write that in your message. I think my wife and probably alot of other people, have a hard time understanding why when I attend a sports event or a parade and I see our flag and hear the national anthem and I have a very hard time fighting back the tears. You spend six months to a year in a country surrounded by people who want you dead and the U. S. flag takes on a whole new meaning. Thank you. Thank you all.

when i serviced my t-case, i just filled it up with mobil1 atf until it flowed out of the fill hole... i did the same fill until it flows out the fill hole for my front and rear diff's and the transmission. .

I was in Baghdad inside the Green Zone the fall of 2004 working for GE and got to meet some of the guys on the ground when we went to the PX or to work out at the two gyms inside the Green Zone and was impressed with there moral and think they are doing a fine job. When I was out at the Duara power plant and things just did not seem right it was great to see the Apache helicopters show up, and know that an armored Calv unit was also on site. Your right about being some place where you are hated makes coming home really special and grateful to be home. Three GE engineers and 2 security people were lost before I got there driving back for Baghdad South by a car bomb. Before I left 2 more of our security people were killed by a road side ied when the driver lost control of the truck because the blast set off the air bag at about 60 mph. I was delayed 3 days because of a bomb on the BIAP road killing some security people from another company and then delayed another day after getting to the airport and our flight was cancelled because the pilots refused to fly so we spend the night at Camp Victory in a ten on cots but we made it home safe and alive.

Sorry guys! I didn't mean to hijack this thread. DGarcia hit a soft spot with me and WStephens I don't care how stupid or sappy this sounds, it warms my heart to hear from you guys who make it back! Again, I apologize for getting off topic.
