The 3rd gear syncro went out at about 1500 miles. It is under warranty (2 years) but I don't want to send it back and wait, so the man sent me the syncros and said call him if I need anything else. I am far from new at building manual trans but have never done an nv4500.

Aside from the syncros and oil, what else will I have to change out? I read somewhere that a needle/caged bearing will have to come off and it will be ruined taking it off. Is this true? And if so can someone tell me what is it called so I can buy it?

Anything else? Shim pack for the . 002 to . 006?

You won't get the mainshaft out of the case without destroying the main bearing on it. If you do you're way more talanted than I. I assume this is the caged bearing you're refferring to. That's the only thing I can think of that has to be sacrificed.

I bought a shim set for each shaft (upper and lower) for ~$10 each from Standard Transmission and gear. You won't have to remove the lower so don't worry about it. If you have an assortment of shims from rear ends or the like lying around they could be made to work.

I've got the NV4500 section of the factory service manual in .pdf form I can send you if you provide an email. It has a basic set of teardown/reassembly instructions. They're not difficult to do.
