Well I let my buddy borrow my truck last week to tow his car down for sandblasting. Coming back with the empty trailer, all of the sudden the truck didn't have 3rd or 4th gear!? After getting the trans out this weekend, I found it actually broke the mainshaft right behind the 3/4 syncro?
This is a 2wd truck, hard to believe that it actually did that. As I understand other then 5th gear coming loose problems, mainshafts are not usually an issue.
My question is, what should I replace it with? PDR has the long spline 5th gear shafts for $200. Do I need a new 5th gear?
I know there are at least a few different aftermarket nuts/shafts out there to help cure the 5th gear loosening problem, but are they worth it?
This is an '01 2500HD ETC QC 5-speed. DD3's, BHAF, Edge Juice with Hot code unlock, and a SBC Con OFE.
