Ok, I'm done searching, what is the general consensus on fluid for the NV4500 transmission?
I've seen you can only run the Castrol Mopar or GM offerings, maybe the Amsoil or Redline GL-4 synthetic offerings but some say these will eat the synchros, what gives?
I'm running a mix of Mobil Delvac STF 50 and Amsoil MST fluid in my 2007.5 with a G56.
The Mobil Delvac STF 50 is a GL4, would this work in the NB4500?
I know this horse has been kicked till it's had maybe 9 lives, but give a guy a break, what's everyone else running and how long have you been running on it?
Thanks

I called Cody at Super Stike Transmission in Texas and got his recommendation for lube oil for my NV-5600 and it was spot on. He liked SAE 50 gear oil for hot climates like Texax and a 50/50 mix of SAE 50 and Amsoil MTL. This 50/50 mix works well but is a bit thick for cold weather use unless the trans oil is allowed to warm up a bit before driving off. For the wife's truck that has an NV-5600 with a fussy 3rd gear synchronizer I went with Redline 85W-90 that worked beautifully.

I am confident Cody can provide you with a good recommendation for your NV-4500.

If you’re going to do yourself & haven’t yet, after you drain it take access plate off side. Then reach inside of gearbox & wipe out the bottom of it. (will be a tight fit for your hand if you can even fit) You’d be surprised of how much more sediment will come out with the rag. You’ll be glad you did.

The factory fill Castrol was designed to keep the trans cool, but you do get a lot of black sludge with it. I prefer Torco RTF which came the closest in trans temp in my testing, see old TDR issues. First reported around Issue 33 or so, reprinted some years later. Not at home, so I can't look up my temp and HP coast-down dyno tests.

Now this is the kind of reply I would enjoy seeing more of... Facts over speculation and seat of the pants feel good crap. Lets see some of that data when you get home...!!! :)

Ditto on the Amzoil Manual Syn, I caused a NV4500 to fail at about 160K as I switched/changed from stock to Amziol Severe Gear and lost the trans to over heat problems and after talking with the Amzoil tech folks, was told that it needs to be the Man Syn as that has the same additives as the Castrol Syn Torq, {GM and Mopar) which are relabled Castrol! My 99 2500 with 4500 had the tag on the fill port of the trans that said to use Castrol.
