I got a transmission and Advance kit from Blumenthals and after fabricating a new mount to replace the cheesy tubing that came with the kit I put the transmission in today. The box tubing they gave me is1/8 wall thickness or less and I made one from 1. 4 wall. The assembly is about an inch too long to fit the Dodge mount that the rubber isolators are in. The advertisement says that there is no adjustment for the Getrag conversion, just the auto. Has anyone run into this problem? I could weld a tab on the front of the box tubing I made but I am wondering if I put something together wrong. The transmission does have the cast iron tail piece but that should be the same length as the aluminum one, correct? Thanks for your help.

Not 100% following the question. You put the 4500 in place of the gutbag, and now the spot that is to be bolted to the trans crossmember rubber donuts/isolaters is too far back? Did I follow that right?

Robert

Had a similar problem, if you want to call it that, when we did mine. Had to redrill the tubing and also had to shorten the rear shaft like 5/8" Went by Blumenthals with the truck and they couldn't give me an answer as to why that occured. Also, the TC shifter is a bit off catching 4 H but no problems in 20k since install. Tim, did you ever get the poly engine mounts ?

Yes BSchwarzli , I put the transmission in place and bolted it up and when I set the "adapter mount" on to the OEM flat stock that then bolts to the crossmember witht he new poly isolators, the 5/8ths" holes are about an inch behind the slots in the OEM plate. I was surfing around last night and High Impact makes reference to a Dodge 11 in wide crossmember that not all trucks have. It is PN 52058460. Mine is a 91. 5 W350 SRW, I haven't been to the shop to measure the crossmember. It is fixable by either moving the crossmember or adapting the new mount. If I move the crossmember the weight will be sitting over the poly bushings better. I just don't know how much time I should put into it. It was advertised as pretty much being bolt in. Thanks.

Yes Tworline, I saw that coming when I opened the box from Advanced. What a POS. I built a new mount from 1/4 wall box beam and painted it all up nice and bolted it to the transmission. I should have put things in place and then fabricated. At least yours lined up with the holes. I am just thinking about getting the support from being directly over the isolators. I don't know yet where the exta length comes from but I have another W350 (93) that is still set up with the Getrag and I will measure today if I can find a spot without too much snow in it. I have an email into Advanced, we'll see what their customer service is like.

Did you take the required amount off the the bearing retainer that is required ?

You might have to flip that tube around to make it work ? Is this a 2wd or a 4wd ?

Mine worked fine although i did have a issue with the crappy rubber t-case rubbers and i swaped them for poly urthane ones . Welcome to Poly Bushings.com

DVolk, I don't know anything about removing material from what bearing retainer. As far as I read, its a bolt in situation. I spent most of the day yesterday building a new mount. Reaching forward under the transmission created some clearance problems. I think I am going to use some 5/8th" lug bolts permanently in the mount to create the clearance. Prototypes are a pain. I can't work on it again for a day or so. We'll see what happens.

Did you use the Advance adapters bell houseing kit ? unless it was noted diffrent if you didnt buy the transmission from them useing there bell houseing , the throw out bearing will not function right as it will hit the pressure plate . Any way on mine thats what it said i had to have mine machined off a littel

I think I finally figured it out. I replaced the motor mounts with some poly ones and when I set the engine back down, I looked back at the transmission mount and saw half a hole where the mount bolts to isolator plate. I'm sure I can coax it the other half with a pry bar. I had no idea the motor mounts were that ragged out. I recall when I shut the truck off, I would get a loud noise and shake but its been over a year since I drove that one. The transmission isolator mounts were like a jelly donut when I took them out and the steel liners were worn right through to the bolts so I figured the shake was there. Glad I changed out the mounts and thanks for the help. I am waiting for the cab to come back from the paint shop now and start putting the guts back in. I should be rolling by New England spring.

Polybushings.com, from Johnny Spiva. I got some cab mounts and transmission mounts from him a few years ago and they held up good so I picked up some engine mounts. They look well made, we'll see.
