I just installed my NV4500 in my 2WD D350. It is not a project for the
faint of heart. If any of you need advise or help let me know. You can
buy the bellhousing from an outfit in CA called Advance adapters. You
will need to use the clutch yoke, pivot ball, and yoke boot from your
Getrag bellhousing... so, keep it handy. Some of the conversions say
you will have to relocate your crossmember... and some say you can
retain it... . I had to relocate and redrill holes in my frame for the crossmember.
Also, you will need to modify your speedo sender from the Getrag... .
and here is the tip... . remove the elbow from the sender and reassemble
it... . and it will read the proper MPH. You will have to punch a new hole
behind the orginal stickshift hole in the floorboard..... and you will have
to have the driveshaft shortened and rebalanced... . it would be a good
time to go with new universal joints as well... . as well as a center bearing
support . The kit from advance adapters in CA runs about 400
and if you can get ahold of a good reman on a NV4500 that will save you
allot on a kit price..... I also replaced the rear main seal and had the
flywheel drilled for a ball bearing pilot bearing... added the new Luk
clutch..... so I should be set for awhile. If any of you are considering
doing this conversion... please drop me a line and ask me questions... I can
answer them for you... .
While the truck was out of service I replaced the rear
brakes... . replaced the rear seals... cleaned and repacked the rear bearings...
replaced the diff fulid... . dropped in a new set of Bosch PW injectors... retuned the pump... . replaced the front passenger brake rotor... this took the
shake out of the front end... .
