HELP!

I lost my fifth gear in my truck. I was cruising around 65 and noticed a sudden lost of power. The other four still work.

I heard of a nut coming off. Where is this nut located and how do I fix it. Do I have to pull the transmission or can I pull the transfer case to get to it? Is it an easy job and is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

I have no clue to this so I need all the help I can get.

You will have to pull the tail housing off of the transmission, and of course the transfer case.

There are good replacement 5th gear nuts available, and you'll want to look at the 5th gear real close, too.

Now getting the new one on will require a special tool, or some ingenuity.

I'm sure there is bound to be a member in your area that may have this tool, too.

It's not a hard job, and can be done on the ground. You'll be changing your transmission oil, too.
