My transmission guy says my NV4500 in my '99 is just plain worn out. He has been into it 3 or 4 times over the last 10 years and now he says I need to look for another one. Allstate Gear in San Antonio sells a rebuilt and updated NV4500 for $975 plus exchange ($500 core). They also sell a newly built one for $1695 with no exchange. They are both built in-house from parts made in Taiwan and both carry a one year unlimited mileage warranty. Thoughts?

EZ,
I had my transmission (268Kmiles) totally rebuilt at Standard Transmission in Ft. Worth last August. I told them I was too old to R&R it ever again, so for $1200.00 including replacing my transfer case seals, they replaced every part that wasn't in factory spec. I live 140 miles from San Antone, but I've never heard of Allstate Gear and I can't speak to the quality of Taiwan made parts.

I have used Allstate gear for parts in the past the upgraded full spline main shafts are poor quality if the fifth gear is still on I'd think about getting a fifth gear repair retainer and use the factory shaft

Why isn't your transmission rebuildable as long as the case is ok the transmission can be rebuilt any good mechanic that knows transmissions should be able to rebuild your transmission at a cheaper cost and only replace parts that are out of spec

Brand new in MOPAR box on ebay a few min ago for $1999 I found this same deal 3 years ago when my NV4500 4X4 died 185K for $1700 and did not look back after a 2 day install and overhaul of t-case. Good luck!
