Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) NV4500 Noises

My 5spd that I bought is making some noises and I wanted to see if anyone new what they could be. When Im moving in gear and let of quick the transmission will sometimes make a gear noise that is pretty loud. If you put it in reverse depending on how you let out the clutch or give it pedal it will make the same noise till the truck gets to speed. Also in 5th it will make a slight noise the whole time. Think it needs to be rebuilt?

Are you sure its a gear noise and not just a grinding (something like sandpaper on rusty metal)? Sounds to me like your clutch is going. At 255,000 it probably wouldn't hurt to freshen up the transmission with some new synchros and bearings while its out but I don't think thats what your problem is.

Yea the clutch is going, it slips when I really get on it, but it sounds to me like gear noises.

Does any of the noise go away if you move the shifter to a different position and hold it from moving back to its resting position? If so there is a bearing in underneath where the shift lever fits into. Before I did mine it used to whirrr like a bad dog and drive me crazy! After I rebuilt the transmission and replaced that bearing, the whirrr went away. Hope this helps.
